I played MGS - I got the special edition thing for it, and a Playstation to play it on, back when it came out in this country.
Years later, I tried MGS2 on PC but it was so terrible and buggy like you wouldn't believe (like, epically so) so I ended up getting a second-hand PS2 to play a second-hand Substance on.
Then, a second-hand MGS3 Subsistence.... which I never finished.
But YouTube has plenty of "edited movie" versions of the cutscenes so that's what I've been watching. Watched the half of MGS3 I never got to see and then started on MGS4... before misremembering set in and I had to watch MGS2 again to remind myself. Then back to MGS4. And Portable Ops. And Peace Walker. And now completed viewing Ground Zeroes.
MGS4 is famous for it's massive cutscenes - indeed, it holds the Guinness World Record for the longest, at about 70 minutes - but the whole "edited movie" for it was almost eight hours in total with some action and battle sequences in appropriate places to frame the narrative parts correctly, same as the other ones have.
It's kept me entertained on and off, at least.
(MGSV gameplay looks incredible)

Anyway, continuing onwards with this play through. I've just hit the peak of the game. The battle of Haven.

See, I don't think I would be able to sit through that. I'd much rather play it than watch it. I just hope they release the HD collection on PS4. They did it for the PS3. Fingers crossed sometime soon, they'll port it over.

Whereas for me it just sounds like such a ballache to play half the time and I'm only really interested in the story.
And all those times Snake (either of them) goes "Metal Gear?!"
Or repeats whatever was just said to him. Which he does. A lot.
