Whenever one of you guys finishes the DLC, can you tell me if it would be better to play it during the main story, or if it's fine to complete it after. What I mean is, does it feel like it adds to the main story (in which case playing it before completing the main story might be better) or if it feels very much seperate (in which case, after completing the main story, it acts as another side story like Golems of Amgarrak in DA:O)

Not always the case. Look at Leviathan or From Ashes with ME3. They both added to the main story, whereas Citadel and Omega didn't so much.
To the killing Corypheus story. No it doesn't, neither do. at all. To the story of Thedas? oh yes. I am almost finished and still believe my preferred - play after Cory Kill or immediately before it - strategy works best as it really doesn't make sense to me that my Inquisitor would be off in dlc land while hunting Cory (and there's only like 1-2 short dialogue lines about whether he's alive or dead anyway). Especially with no mention of what took place once your out of the DLC zone.

For anyone wondering how long it possibly takes to complete (Descent) it took me 7-1/2 hours. fully completed the area. And I'm a little confused still so going to do it again later today.

It is very much the case with this DLC. Take it from someone who is two hours into the DLC.
