Nope, haven't seen it but I'm not surprised it was used in a movie called The Jerk Theory. It is a very d*ckish thing to do to someone else. Something only a jerk would do.

I don't think that was quiet what we meant (I say we because I agreed with Dazzle). Not loving yourself doesn't stop people from loving you, and nothing should stop you from being in a relationship.

 

What I believe is that if you don't fully love yourself, then other people don't fully see the "real" you (as in, parts of you are hidden away). But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be in a relationship or find love. Not in any means.

 

You'll be fine, Dienne. There's someone out there who will make you happy, and in turn, you make them happy.

Pariter isn't actually a Cadash.  She was born Pariter Saelac of House Saelac in 9:13 Dragon and was, like all members of House Saelac, destined to become a proud warrior caste member.   In her first proving for the youth trainees in 9:28, she took a well placed shield bash to the face, resulting in a broken nose (which she is very sensitive about, so don't stare)  but persevered and won the proving, bringing honor  to herself and House Saelac.  It was at this proving where she caught the eye of Nerav Helmi and was offered the position of Nerav's second once she came of age.

 

Fate, however, intervened, and intervened harshly indeed.  With the murder of Trian Aeducan, supposedly by his very own brother, House Saelac was thrown into chaos.  Gorim Saelac, second to the accused Aeducan was banished to the surface.  Nerav Helmi, as the likely future wife of the accused, was under a great deal of scrutiny, as was anyone associated with her.  Pariter's mother, fearful of her daughter's life, arranged to have her smuggled out of Orzammar to be united with Gorim.  However, the caravan was waylaid by Carta bandits.  While desperately outnumbered, Pariter gave better than she got and greatly impressed the Cadash leader of the raid, who called a halt to the attack and offered Pariter membership in the Carta as well as honorary membership in House Cadash.

 

To Pariter, the choice was simple.  Live as a merchant under the watchful eyes of her elder brother for the rest of her days, or live as she was meant to live, as a warrior. proud and free.  Thus was she, in her 17th year of life, reborn as Pariter Cadash.  The next 11 years of her life were the everyday trials and tribulations all must face, until, in her 28th year of life, on one fateful day in 9:41 Dragon...

I'm only speaking from personal experience, but when I didn't like myself and when I was self-conscious or depressed my relationships suffered.

They were always having to reassure me that they thought I was pretty, tell me they didn't want to be with other girls; it was always them reassuring me and because of it I was a terrible partner and I don't think I was at all easy to love.

Now I'm confident, fun to be around, not always doubting myself and my relationships flourish.

I don't want anyone to be lonely, but your partner should add joy to an already full life. They shouldn't be your other half, your whole world, etc. You should already be a full person without them, and that's what I mean about loving yourself first.
