That was one time!

Ohai!  Didn't see you there :)

*Beren shoves a DP Roy's way and helps himself to a bourbon*

Actually, moving beyond your smallclothes, which don't get me wrong are probably a fascinating subject in their own right, I need archer advice for Luthien.  Specifically specialization advice.  I know, I know tempests rule (and dieb would say artificers do), but why?  To be totally frank, I'm looking at this tree  and trying to figure out how it's great for an archer.  I mean, even the focus ability's name heavily implies it's for a knife cutter.

No big rush at all.  Don't have the materials yet anyway.  Assassin archer sounds cool, ya??

ETA:  Crap, top!

I absolutely LOVED playing my assassin archer (my only rogue to beat the main game). Favourite spec ever.

This little lady was my assassin archer. I'm actually in the middle of re-making her, and she'll once again be Blackwall's love. So your little assassin archer mention got me excitable.

Carry on xD

Assassin archer works fine, Artificer archer is better though.

Well, that's... uh... Yeah, okay, if the lady that seems to enjoy thunderbolting my arse on a regular basis actually prefers an assassin archer spec over a lightning mage, that's actually pretty compelling!

Regarding the second bolding...  Yeah, Luthien.  The lady Blackwall kicked in the gut on the battlements.  See spoiler for her love song to him.

Honestly, the artificer tree just doesn't appeal to me.  At all.  I look at those skills and just... "meh" in a  very big way.  No disrespect meant to those who enjoy it, it just doesn't seem my cup of  tea.  Which is really too bad because I had wanted to ensure I do every specialization at least once.

I thought the exact same thing until I tried it.

It is, IMO, the most underrated spec and a surprise contender for the most powerful.

Yeah, well. hahaha. I wasn't a fan of playing artificer (my Qunari was one), it just wasn't my playstyle no matter what the power/damage output could become. In my personal experiences my assassin archer did just as much damage etc, she hit like a Qunari dreadnought since I was better with her then the other two specs for rogue.

I am big on the action ranged sniping monsters though! even my Knight Enchanters are built to be ranged monsters when the spec is often barrier/melee styled, not a fan of melee but damn i love that spec when mixed with lightning, but assassin archer still beats it, just,

That's what I am really enjoying about DAI's classes and class specialisations. There is tons of different ways to get something beasty that you enjoy playing a lot. There is no one right way to play it.

It's all about how you use the flasks. Flask of fire allows you to spam long shot, leaping shot, and Explosive Shot which are all devastating (don't use it for full draw because of the long animation). Leaping shot does tons of damage so being able to spam that 5 times will do serious damage. Long shot, upgraded, has a short animation and can take out multiple targets at once. Explosive shot has the bonus of knocking enemies down so knocking them down over and over is fun. Flask of lightning can get you out of a tight spot and deal some damage as you get away, or unleash the fury of app your abilities before the enemy can react. Flask of Frost boosts armor and freezes any clowns that get close. Great against shadows and stalkers. Hit them with a Longshot afterwards to shatter them. I don't use the spec specific focus abilities, mark of the rift works just fine for me, but thousand cuts can annihilate bosses. There's a reason Sera is a great dragon killer. Don't need knives to use it, just get close to your target.

Assassin archer is a beast. Artemis, my first lady elf, is an assassin archer and she rips through every thing. That mark of death, man. I was able to do almost 90k damage to a dragon with it. Solas better watch his back for her.

Great write-up, thanks.  Sorry you had to do it twice, though.   Also, not sure if this is the game trying to prod me or  what, but I find it odd that I just found an enhanced thousand cuts ring (really, just minutes ago.  alt-tabbed out to write about it) while pondering all of this.

the assassin archer I mentioned, so DAI . DAO is having a break because it went and crashed losing me 20 minutes of cutscenes to sit through again rofl

Plus, right now I found DAI cc to be my happy place, a sorely needed distraction. I can't concentrate on actual game at the moment :( so creating characters.

DAO crashes:   You know what finally resolved -most- of them for me?  Windowed mode.  Yeah, I sacrifice some screen size, but it is much more stable.  Holy smite and mana clash still have a greater than normal chance of causing an immediate CTD, and of course the game does still just slowly start slowing down until you simply must quit and restart, but it is quite a bit more stable than full screen mode.  ME1 same thing.

Oh FFS.  Okay, Luthien is  going to be a tempest no matter what now.  If this isn't the game telling me to do it, I don't  know what to think.  Still level 8, one of the lowest, if not THE lowest, levels I have ever gotten to Skyhold, and she's found all the tempest requirements while still finishing up The Hinterlands.

So, I showed Beren my new elf finalised but then the game crashed just as I entered the prisoner interrogation cutscene thingy right after cc is accepted. ffs, so gotta start again. This means I choose to limit my crankiness about it by entertaining myself making a semi step-by-step collage from preset to final product :D

:o  She was really well done, too!  Hope you can re-create her faithfully.  Alas, I won't see it tonight.  I must bed.  Goodnight, DQ.  XXX OOO.
