I reckon that's because you (character) don't need to even think the Maker might exist to become a close friend of hers and she's not over-preachy, and is very pragmatic? I think that's the word I'm looking for..

Well she stands up on principles.  And to be fair to Kara her only experience with Chantry politics was through the lens of her family and all the political wranglings of Ostwick...the same environment and family which shipped her brother off to the Circle of Magi in the middle of the night, secretly, to avoid shame.  She had a very dim view of the Chantry and Cassandra, (and probably Sera too to a lesser extent) were probbably the first people she interacted with on a regular basis that were not mustache twirling victims.  Who were principled, but good principled.  And not freightened by a small boy.  

 

Also Cassandra and Kara had *really* similar backstories.  They both hated the nobility of their home countries.
