Verana's staff is done.  I meant veil-quartz, not ice dragon bone.

Spoiler

*running around Emerald Graves for final shards for Kyrrah*

I CLAIM THIS BED! it has an awesome view..

Is that  the person that was spying on the great bear?  May not be  the best location...

You could always read the rune descriptions at the crafting table.

I did, actually.  That's where I got the idea that it affected every living thing.  That "+50 vs living" and it not saying it wouldn't affect already corrupted things.  I don't doubt  that I was wrong in my assumption, I'll accept that, but the crafting table does not, in any way, suggest it wouldn't work against red templars or darkspawn, who are, to my knowledge, living beings of humanoid shape.

Beware that corypheus. He likes to stare creepily at the inquisitor's bosom.

But elves have small bosoms. Except Sera.

I thought they were ample enough. I mean, they don't need a push up bra like the lady dwarves.

I'm curious why you would go with Armour Penetration on a staff?

It's a stat of dubious value for anything other than melee rogues but useless on a mage.

Morning guys. Sorry about yesterday. :(

Okay, entire crew now has newly crafted (if needed) and plaideweaved armor and new weapons.  Verana is as ready as ready can be for the DLC, so saved, parked, and shut down.  Cole, btw, looks simply hideous.  I really, really don't get how you folks love the plaideweave.

Er... well, she shoots her staff projections at armored targets all the time?  Is this another thing I've been not smart about?  I never read anywhere that it armor penetration modifiers wouldn't work on staves.

Oh well, I've played the whole game like this.  I'm not remaking anymore.  I fact, I don't know that I should.  What with all the armor and weapons I crafted, I've burned through all my tier 4 materials, and that includes the stuff you can buy from Black Emp. and I -think- I cleared out the deep roads one as well.  Maybe not...

If that's how you've always played then keep it that way if you like. I stopped using armour penetration on anything for my mages a while ago in favour of Sunder when it got added to the game. personal preference though of course hehe. Plus sunder helps my party members, armour pen does next to nothing, took me ages to figure that out which is really sad.

But yeah, armour pen isn't amazing for mages, Here's the big info on why:

Our attacks being elemental damage so attacking the target's elemental and magic defenses (or lack of) rather then armour.

Well no, I mean I'll adjust my OTHER mages to take this new (to me) information into account.  It's just too late in the game to screw with Verana's weaponry now, especially since if I crafted her a new staff, it'd be from, uh... Everite I think.  Whichever tier 3 does shocky whocky damage.  Sunder, eh?  Maybe I should research these on the wikia some...

Sunder: chance to reduce the armour of thing that hits you OR that you hit (depends on materials used/slot used so it shows as 'when hit' or 'on hit'). It's more of a helping companions thing then helping the mages, I always travel with companions and Cassandra makes short work of a sundered target.

What Stormqueen said. I personally go for Crit Chance although I only ever use mages for support.

You can always ask me if you want more details ;)

Some of the stats I personally use are odd, but I do know the better ones to try and get, even depending on the armour you're trying to craft hehe

I'm an offense mage specialist, not good with support mage builds, just an fyi

Sunder, I understand, deals extra damage to armour. Sunder means to split apart.

Oooh.  Yeah, Verana uses horror to help her front line peeps.  Really farks up enemy armor.  (yes, that's the technical explanation)

Varric is good for that too since rogues can sunder armour as one of their passives.

Craft him some Bianca arms that Stagger On Hit and he can set up his own cross class combos too.

Ahh a necromancer I see?

Knight enchanter for me, I very rarely lose my barriers.

yup! I forgot my real BOOM! Squad peeps, Varric owns the battlefield in my party, Dorian and Kyrrah are just there to make pretty fire and lightning effects haha. And Cassandra keeps everything in one place for me, usually.

I never barrier.  Can't be arsed to mess with that stuff when I have other crap to be throwing out.  That's why, when playing a mage, I -always- bring another mage along.  Their barriers are set to preferred.  That whole tree is just so BORING, so I let the other losers deal with that stuff while I throw the elements.  Then a rogue because you never know when you'll need something unlocked, and that means Sera because I find Varric so horrible ... what was I saying?  Oh, yeah, Varric.  So horribly forgettable.  *ducks and runs*

I don't barrier either (Kyrrah I mean).. Dorian does that for me :D

Though it would be more effective if Kyrrah did but meh, I prefer the other trees and only having 8 slots, I have other priorities.

Varric > Sera any day for me.. Cassandra and Dorian can never be replaced either.
