FWIW, it's exceedingly rare.  I think maybe four times in 11 years, and all were highly aggressive Starlings.  Typically, being dedicated with cleaning out sparrow nests, and using entrances that make it very difficult for Starlings to even enter take care of it just fine.  Plus, once the Martin colony is well established each year, they have the numbers to run off any intruders on their own for the most part.  Believe me, I'm not fond of needing to go for kill either if it can be avoided.

 

Ugh, Gods, I wish they were all just MaryDen trying to take over a nest, that would make it sooooo easy.

It's just... I don't know I hear and read it so often. Rare population, aggressive behaviour of other species. Everywhere it's the same, only the species and reasons differ.

But the main reasons (at least with the animals I heard of) are always manmade. That's what makes me sad, annoyed, whatever.

Even though I always appreciate the effort people take in helping.

Damn, now I really wish I could pronounce my opinion better in english.
