Hi all. Been away with work, sketches, and a gum ache. Question: is it true that alcohol can numb pain as a swish? And if so, which works best? It's not an excuse to drink. I don't need one.

Alcohol does do that. The clearer, the better, so ideally vodka or scotch.
That's an emergency remedy however, since it can cause tissue damage especially to those as soaking as your gums. If you can, use a soaked Q-tip directly onto the area where it hurts the most - nerve signals radiate after all.

Yeah I'll stop there. The other day I'd read some article about various remedies. The article was basically filled with, "Ew, that was gross" on every healthy means, and awarded whisky the winner. Oragel was apparently too disgusting to be effective. Yet when all this business started last month, it was my life saver.
Does that mean mouthwash is bad for you?
As far as I know, mouthwash is fine. In another article I'd read, the claim was you don't want to use it too often. It can be bad for enamel.
