What do you think of the combat?

It's a lot faster than the Souls series which took some getting used to but the emphasis on interrupting an opponent's attack is a nice touch.

I like it but I'll need to try some PVP before I can really say.

Interrupt and instant kill! Very nice! Well, instant kill on most enemies. Tougher enemies will only take a huge chunk of damage.

I tend to save parrying for bigger enemies, smaller ones I tend to keep my distance and poke them to death.

First time, I went with the axe and pistol.

 

Second time, I went with the saw cleaver and pistol.

 

I prefer the axe, especially it's two handed charge attack. You swing it around you and knock everything back. Life saver that.

I went with the cane. It was a good starting weapon if a little lacking for punch
The ability to switch between long and short range was nice though.

The cane is for a flashier execution. I tried it once. I didn't really like it.

 

Now, I really like Ludwigs Holy Blade. It's a simple one handed sword, but it's alternate is a giant two handed blade, similar to Cloud Strifes Bumper Sword from FF:VII. I also love the design of it. If you look closely on the right of the blade, you can see the gap in which the sword passes through in order to make the alternate weapon. I like simple things like that.

That thing is the worst x_x

The devs being lazy and just give these creatures ungodly amounts of HPs and damage potential. Some of my spells did thousands of points of damage and it barely scratch its HPs.

Sneezing at it.

Seriously, that thing was the easiest thing ever. It telegraphs all its moves. Stay on the move. Ranged characters definitely have an advantage with it.

If you're an Artificer yourself or have Varric in your party, it's easy to face roll.

Stand to one side and spam Elemental Mines, it'll hit the arms and both lyrium nodes they're protecting.
Add Mighty Offense Tonic to the mix and it dies fast.

EDIT: Just mind the AoE attacks.

I tend to prefer longer, quicker weapons and I found the cane perfect for baiting attacks that I could counter.

I don't do much countering. Can never get the timing right. So I just go with weapons with more punch, and I dodge attacks.

Got 3 houses full of screaming, cheering footy fans around my house now. All watching the grand-final of course, what else would they be doing at this time of the evening on a sunday with footy fan flags draped all over the balconies. hahaha

I had trouble myself. Use an archer, and circle it using various attacks. Poisoned weapons are great, too. DON'T use leaping shot.. and when it starts going crazy run like hell, don't let it touch you.
