Isn't fanatic considered as a 'bad' term? So who even wants to be one?

Is that a list of requirements to be a fanatic? Let's see how they stand up to my obsession with Mass Effect or unholy obsession with DA.
Never dressed up as a ME/DA character.
Never painted my face nor do I have a ME/DA related tattoo.
Never attended any convention where ME/DA had a presence. I've actually never been to a convention at all.
Clearly not as fan of those franchises as I thought I fanned. I am disappoint.
Well fanatic implies 'super fan' at least to me. Ugh I am in a very weird state when it comes to Star Wars because, again, I have never really been that huge into it per se. ROTJ was my favorite movie for a long time in my youth. But most of the other ideas and movies did not do a whole lot for me. Star Wars has a lot of good ideas going for it and does a lot of cool things but its been rare that they have been able to put it into a cohrent hole. Hopefullt TFA will change that.

And then there's that too. Like being mocked for being a fan of something if nothing else or some drooling idiot over it. Which I am not. Yet.

Fan is short for fanatic. So if you are a fan of something, you are a fanatic. I like being a fan of books, video games, sports teams, movies, TV shows, etc.

Sort of a connotation versus a denotation sort of thing. Fan can conjure images of someone happily watching a favorite show of theirs with ice cream. Fanatic conjures images of radicals flying planes into buildings. Extreme example I know.

No, that would be terrorism.
If people want to associate bad qualities with fanatic, that is on them.

I grew up with it, but I think I only saw RotJ at the theaters. So I was a big fan of that first.. then Empire as an adult. I distinctly remember owning the Ewok village. lol
That whole era of movies has some of my favorites though. Road Warrior, Conan the Barbarian, Superman.. and umm.. Rocky ![]()

You know Cinema did kind of go through a dark period didn't it? There was really nothing good on, except for established franchises, really between the 1980s and 2000s and then that is when you started to get more SWs the LOTRs of the world. Etc. etc.

Well I know that 'fan' comes from fanatic, I just mean that theres a difference if you call yourself fan or fanatic. That it just has a kind of negative meaning calling yourself fanatic. If someone called me fanatic in my language the person would definitely mean it in a not good way lol. But yeah, I guess it's just context.

Hmm. Neither have I. Am I a bad fan?
I did want to make my own N7 hoodie once upon a time. Had a plan and a way to do it, too!
Never happened in the end.
I haz sads now because of it.

A "Fanatic" is often someone willing to go to extreme lengths.
Most times, it is merely an insult, and not statement of fact.
Few qualify.

Well, the 70s is mostly my favorite. Not just for the blockbusters necessarily. Just the whole crop of "student directors". Scorsese, Milius... but I include Spielberg/Lucas as well. Even if they shaped the later period more.

Mind yu I should qualify that I do want to do many of the things I just listed but do not have the money or motivation to really pull it off. I'd so dress up as a Jedi lip a lightsaber on, shuum shuum.

Fanatik. Fanoušek.
See the difference? It is much more pronounced in Czech.

Crashing planes is never funny... crashing projectiles launched from planes into buildings...
Depends on the building.
