Well, the moderation is not terrible this time around (though it was much better in the first half than the second). I don't think I've really heard anything terribly new, though. There's been a little more squabbling between candidates than there was previously, but that's almost inevitable when you're down to three people and need to make it clear why they're not all the same.

I think if you watch it as a political process in action, it's decent. If you watch these things just for entertainment, it has nothing on the Republican debates, but that's unsurprising given the lack of Trump.

Professional?  Man acts like a three year old when you take away his bottle.

I didn't say he was professional ...I was saying that he can afford to put on such a large dog and pony show it's of the upper scale variety...ie: Professional

The one thing I am not terribly keen on -- but this has been a problem for every debate, no matter who is running it -- is that they are not good at ensuring comparable speaking time for candidates. If someone's going to drop out of a race, I want it to be because they didn't win people over; not because they never really got a chance to do so.

AKA Rand Paul.

It's really something that happens with most candidates. The media pick the frontrunners early, and then it plays out kind of like self-fulfilling prophecy.

I think we decided not to actually argue politics here (that'll go quite poorly, I'm sure). That said, just in my experience: party is irrelevant. When I was extremely conservative, I saw Ron Paul get sidelined in and out of the debates. Sanders was the same way from a liberal perspective, and while he has forced people to pay attention to him (which is kind of unheard of, and worthy of praise simply for having happened), you have O'Malley there more or less just as a decoration. Which is ridiculous. The man is on the stage, you should treat him like a candidate rather than an extra, and ensure that he has equal weigh-in. Several times tonight he wanted to join in on something Clinton and Sanders had been back and forth on, only to be told they had to go to commercial instead.

Ultimately, O'Malley might still never have had a chance, but when he isn't given an equal shot to present himself and discuss with others, he really never has a chance. And that's the kind of thing that bothers me. I missed the last Republican debate, so it may have been happening to Rand. I know it happened to his father.

I think in one of the debates he got only like a minute 27 of speek time while Trump got like 10.  Its hard given how crowded the GOP field is.

It's hard, yes, but if the organizers of the debate took even speaking time as a serious part of their job, they would make it happen. They guarantee that we cut to advertisement slots. They can guarantee that people respect one another and rules of discussion. These people are, after all, applying for a rather important job. They can hold their tongues. But no one is making them.

Still, Rand used his time well he had some of the best sound bits from the last debate, which is the first one I actually listened to. lol.  He made Trump and Rubio look like chimps.
