There's a known thing with this particular build, apparently.  Or something.   I don't know!  But something  about some thing  installed on this phone makes the update break whatever I do, and I don't know enough to start using factory images and software to blah blah blah I have no clue yadda yadda.

 

So now it's time to install and update every app, restore my text messages, put the photos and music back on, etc.  And stay with 5.1.... unless they do a good 5.1-to-6 update some time.
