Hard to be original when our literary/ fiction tradition extends back something like four thousand years.

Rephrasing isn't necessary. Frustration at marketing is fine, but what I said was in response to your next sentence: "I miss the days of more original ideas."

Maybe you miss the days of more original/diverse marketing (whatever Hollywood chooses to "cram" down your throat), but you're living in the days of more original ideas in the actual films available than ever before.

As for the R thing, that does help explain it. Movies with lower ratings are typically relying on achieving as wide an audience as possible, meaning by default they aim for the lowest common denominator. It's possible that there was once greater diversity in PG-13 films than there is now?

There are probably one or two a month, true, but it’s not really crowding the scene. Last month, for example, saw the release of Black Ops 3, Need for Speed, Fallout 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Star Wars Battlefront, for example; Beyond: Two Souls was the only remaster. Probably the reason it’s noticeable is because this is the first generation we’ve really seen remasters as a regular thing rather than a very rare one.

As for the other thing, you'll have to wait a while, but it'll happen :)

Well I was gonna keep watching regardless. I do like the show, even if it can be predictable at times. I wasn't pre empting what you just told me though.

Actually, as a wannabe writer I do get a little bit annoyed if others say "be original". I'm thinking, okay. Let's see you think up something "original". And have fun with that.

Basically if you're gonna write something successful it's gonna have elements of what's been done before, but it's the way you put it across and what you can add to it that will count.

Exactly.  I call it execution, and how good or bad a work is, the acting, the writing, the cinematagraphy, all comes down to execution.  The most original idea in the world can fail horribly if its executed poorly, and the most unoriginal idea in the world can be awesome if done right.

Speaing of which I am sure you all have heard me prattle on from time to time about my Tier system, now I am sure this will result in a lot of 'Foley shut up' or 'no one cares Foley', but I was thinking of adding a Tier 0.  The best of the best in that medium.  The Gold Standard of which all things are currently judged by in that medium.  Right now I would have only two Tier 0s.  Considering that I do not really have a 'favorite things of all time', which I have a few...two to be precise.

Shut up Foley.

Being serious now though.. I don't rate anything. My tastes change from whatever I'm into at the time, and it changes quite a bit. Phases.

Haha. Indeed. To quote an author 2300 years ago,

"What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun."

Snarky and ****, bit like you...

It's just a flashy toy.

It's flashy, and it's cool, and sister got W10 on her PC, I had to try it.

It didn't work without logging in, I gave the PC the finger and went back to my sweet sweet W7.

It's bad when a women 15 years older than you tells you you look tired.

Sleep. Now. That's an order.

And no.... aaaaah!

I can be.  Which is why I don't feel comfortable rating/ reviewing something unless I have consumed it twice.  Because the first time I usually end up either not liking it as much and then on subsequent rewatches/ reads/ plays I enjoy it more, or vice versa.  Unless its SWs:FU (the most appropriate acynym ever.  The only video game that I rate Tier 5.  That piece of **** can die in a fire somewhere.
