I'm chugging along through Fallout 4 too, I'm as horrible at it as I thought I would be, at least the death animations are entertaining as heck lol.
I'm almost done my first PT of FO4 (just have side quests/exploring and the Institute quest to do) and I am really bad at it too. I play on easy and get killed quite a bit, but I am slowly figuring it out/getting better and I am having lots of fun with it. I love Cait so much ![]()
Oh, and I already started a second character to play as a melee fighter (and romance Curie)

I haven't gotten very far through at all yet.

Did you set up your first settlement? And find the dog?

Can't say I didn't foresee this lol.

Not that far through yet. literally right at the start still pretty much. Found out me and guns = complete fail, that's about it.

You could always play a melee character if you don't like guns. My second character is a melee fighter and it's really fun.

I'm playing on Easy. I still die a bit, but it's not really that frustrating... yet.

I've been running around with a baton! only melee weapon I've found so far, and that's quite alright with me hehehe
I'm really slow playing, never able to get into modern-real world-ish first person shooter types (melee fighting is ok though). Only exception was Red Dead Redemption, I love that game to bits. But I'm chugging through FO4 slowly. Inability to get interested is just game setting style I think, has nothing to do with combat (well except guns), world looks and blood/graphic stuff, all that is fine.

If you struggle with your aim, try shotguns.
Other than that, sniping, particularly with a suppressed rifle/pistol, and stealth will allow you to pick off most targets provided you can stay out of sight.
Shadowed armour can help with that.

Any temptation to run a melee character would probably end upon reaching the Glowing Sea for me lol.

I would suggest that you keep going at your own pace and see if you can get into it.

And don't forget VATS. That handy little game mechanic has saved my butt too many times to count.

I am literally right at the start lol so no idea what any of that stuff you mentioned is, yet. only gun I've come across is the first one you get in-game, a pistol I think, and I died to the first group of roaches after that 8 times in a row and rage quit until I decided to just use the baton again haha. I hate guns xD can't aim if my life depended on it lmfao. To be honest, half my issue or probaly 2 thirds of it, is I have the game on console, and SUCK at console controllers, despise them lol. But I am trying.

I was planning to wait until I was a high level before attempting that quest (And I was going to use Power Armour)
ETA: Only a minor spoiler for the enemies you encounter. No story spoilers.

You'll get a shotgun later. I recommend them because the wide spread makes it harder to miss.

I was thinking Radscorpions but Deathclaws are bad too.
EDIT: Curious, what weapon are you planning on using?

Oh, right, them. I think I ran past most of the Radscorpions in my first game. Lucky me ![]()
And I think if I build my character right and get lots of the perks in the endurance tree, I shouldn't have too much trouble with them on Easy.

Fair enough. I'd probably lean toward a serrated weapon although there is a certain glee in smashing some fool with a rocket propelled hammer that quick, precise cuts can't replicate lol.

I will probably get both and just switch out my Super Sledge whenever I need something more precise.
One of the main reasons I started a melee PT was to use the Super Sledge. Lol.
Edit: ToP! Cait found a minigun.

You just have to spec correctly. Increase health and damage resistances, and of course take as many strength perks as you think are necessary. Melee builds are a lot more successful if you sacrifice certain attributes at the beginning to get the later perks you need earlier, such as reflecting damage.
