I'm not a very good example of restraint after upgrading precious Pillars of Eternity to Royal edition...

And getting the expansion pass...

And Undertale...

Oh, and Transistor's OST, which is awesome.

high5.gif  Right there with ya!  Though, if I can somehow limit it to $4.99, I'll consider myself blessed.  Actually, it wasn't Steam that wrecked me this year, it was GOG's summer sale.

I don't know, I enjoy it, and Rel seems to do the same. It's not complete garbage. As for being good... well, I wouldn't really go that far, but I think it'd deserve a nice 5-6/10 (which, in my book is "Average, pretty decent" and 10/10 would be "ORGASMIC EVENT IMMINENT")

Well screw you, Steam.  Haven't even started you in anything but offline mode since I heard there was a sale.  But noooo, you just couldn't take the hint, could you?  Bastard...

You... can actually... buy in US Dollars... *looks sad*

Bloody Euro. And it actually grew stronger towards the Czech Crown in the past few months.

Oh well, at least I don't see anything I really want in the sale.

Do you want me to craft another one of these 100% Sale Resistance armors?

And as a sneaky little edit: I just apparently entered myself in a PlayStation 4 give away. It's the 500GB edition (hah! My PC has a 1TB harddrive!) with Nathan Drake Collection (So if I win, I'm making a trip to Shembala... right after I get back from bloody Prague, where I'll be forced to pick up the prize if I win... I'm planning on asking if they can send it over here, because the pickup is at my regular retailer's store there, and well, they have another literally fifteen minutes of walking from the University, which has the advantage of NOT BEING ACROSS HALF THE COUNTRY...)

So, yeah. I might win stuff. I wouldn't think it very likely, though. Has to be lots of peoples, right.

So is PoE any good? I'm not entirely sold on the old school look and style but how's the story and gameplay and such?

Story and rp factor - AMAZING

but the gameplay style.. you kind of have to like that style to enjoy it, combat and movement wise etc. conversations are good though.

^^^ What Ash said. I find it incredibly immersive, and the writing is superb in my opinion. Probably my GOTY.

That said, the combat is a bit difficult and requires quite a lot of pause and managing of your party but one can get used to it.

It can be great deal of fun, which I have to learn to divorce from "doing well" i.e. kills and making a difference in the game (such as captures or activations, and stopping same) because I'm not really that good at these online FPS games.  That being said, I did surprisingly well a few times last night - my KD was very close to 1 a few times and even just over it once.

I find it's best to leave a session when the other team wins all the time - the lineup doesn't randomise between matches so the guys who beat you 10-0 last time will likely continue to do so until your team or theirs changes significantly.  Futility is not entertaining.

It also looks incredible and the big battle game types really feel like total chaos with blaster bolts and explosions everywhere, it's weirdly atmospheric (for someone who's not every been in a warzone anyway).

It'll never win any amazing creativity or new thinking awards, though.

That's pretty much what I heard.  Sounds like it might be best played on the easy setting if one isn't used to the way the combat is done, which I've seen a few reviews say.

So... if someone (say me, for example) loved old DA:O combat, would one feel at home in Pillars of Eternity?

RE:  GOG:  I love GOG.  I think it actually surpasses Steam in the number of games in my library.  For one thing, while its new client (Galaxy) is nice, you can just download the installers directly if you prefer.  That rocks for me with some of their ancient games because I still have a dedicated DOS machine that I keep for just such games.

I bought three extra bottles of sparkling cider to go with the four I already have just in case. In case what? I have no idea. I'll probably end up buying more tomorrow morning after work.

I play it on easy settings and can manage the combat alright, not fantastic at it but good enough to get through without losing followers if I save a lot lol.

I just involuntarily laughed out loud after reading "Boobytrap spelled backwards makes Partyboob" in Roly's signature.

Suddenly, all my RPG characters make sense.

-snip-

That depends on how you played DA:O and still... not exactly "at home" but it could help if you're used to a more tactic approach, using pause a lot and controlling your companions.

I don't think there can be too much sparkling cider, which is best cider IMO.
