Boxing Day sales were the worst for me personally as customer service.

"sorry, sir, that sold out an hour ago"

"nonsense it's in the catalogue! and the sale started today"

"yes sir, it started today, 4 hours ago, but our stock for this popular item has already sold out."

-insert customer rage here-

Ah, yes. For Customer service reps, boxing day is the worst. All those angry frustrated people trying to return items. I need more cider just thinking about it.

I am so glad I have never had to handle returns. *drinks all the cider*

I'd be horrible at that job.

The ONE time I went for an interview like that, I literally saw a raging customer chewing a lady out.. fresh in my mind, I told the interviewer later about it and what I thought. Lets say I was never hired.

How awesome would it be if you were able to say it exactly like that

We don't really have boxing day here. I'm surprised another opportunity to worship at the shrine of consumerism hasn't caught on.

Which country are you in?

It surprises even me, as an American.. to see the sale stuff on the news sometimes. I don't get out enough to see just how bad it is.

US. New Yorker. Even the phrase "Boxing Day" barely gets used. At least not anywhere I've lived (NY, Boston, Pittsburgh, Columbus).

You'd think between "heck yes gift cards" and "heck yes return things because you're an ungrateful monster" it'd be Black Friday part deux.

Asutralia doesn't have the big Black Friday stuff or whatever that sale in America is that always gets on our news (well, the customers trampling each other part). Our big one is the boxing day sales, and they are nowhere near as bad haha

There's also the end of financial year stuff in june/july but it isn't as big as boxing day.

I never used boxing day either actually.. I just bundle it all up with the Black Friday crazyness. I thought that's what you meant.

Nope. Boxing Day is December 26th. I'm pretty sure it's predominately a holdover from the UK and is a much bigger deal in pretty much every former British colony except the USA.

Plus side: the lack of awesome sales to pull me out of the house means I'll probably actually catch the Arsenal game.

heh, weird. Boxing Day 26th dec (the day after christmas- 25th dec) is a big day, and a national public holiday, in Australia. Always weird hearing that other countries have barely even heard of the term. It really can't be an Aussie thing, we steal stuff from other countries...

edit: aha! UK day/term, that makes more sense!

'Muricans generally get confused when you say boxing day. I'm cultured enough to know about it.

This is what I will be drinking for the next week or two. I have four bottles in the fridge right now.

Speaking of consumerism.. and Christmas movies.. I actually enjoyed that Arnold movie where he tries hunting for a toy for his kid.

It's hard to hate most Christmas movies actually..

I am not a fan of christmas movies, but then movies generally have to be fantasy/middle ages type setting for me to like them.

Heathen!

No really, I like those too. Well, some.

Yet to this day Arnold's first Conan flick is still my favorite. No one has improved upon a 30 yr old movie, afaik.

True story: when I mentioned Scrooged, I was going to also note that the only Christmas movie I have watched in its entirety this month is Jingle All the Way, which is "that Arnold movie where he tries hunting for a toy for his kid."

I don't know if any of you saw last year's Grumpy Cat movie, but that was probably the single worst holiday-based film I have ever seen. And that's despite growing up in a house where the Hallmark/Lifetime Movie channels were on all the time.

Haha.. that movie is cheesy, but I sat through it too and ended up liking it.

Haven't seen the Grumpy movie.. I don't even know who Grumpy is?
