The settlement building....As if Bethsada games didn't have anough time wasters already
Still getting FO4 eventually, though.
*has not finished FO3 or New Vegas despite having owned both for years*
I had a coworker lend me those games when I first started working at my current place of employment. I still haven't played them. And I've not returned them. And it's been three and a half years. ![]()
We are usually very welcoming people *mouths at Serza and Lyn to behave* but can be abit sarcastic from time to time.

I actually preferred Fallout 4. It kept what worked from its predecessor, and the mechanics and the world are much more refined, and they genuinely feel like a more pleasing experience. The crafting system is fairly deep, ad takes a bit of devotion with your time and levels to properly master. Not to mention the settlement building! This is by far my favorite feature. The story feels a bit more thought out, and it can really make you question your moral compass.
Don't get me wrong though, it has its fair share of faults, but don't let that deter you from a great game that was nominated for game of the year (though it lost to The Wild Hunt).
I'm not saying it's not a good game, I've really enjoyed it myself. It's pretty and fun and has nice new features but I don't think it kept all that worked from its predecessors... it doesn't feel like a an RPG anymore, but a shooter set in the Fallout universe with some RPG elements.
There are some neat new features like the voiced protagonist (great voice acting, BTW) but a high cost: the dialogue choices have been dumbed down into a DA2 style wheel, in which you don't really know what you're going to say and where the options don't actually defer that much from each other. In older RPGs or even in New Vegas having a certain level of different skills opened new dialogue options and ways to proceed through a quest and this, opposed to the simple charisma check, in my opinion added more depth to the game.
About the story, it may be richer than others but once again, at a great cost: one of the bases of roleplaying games is creating the character you want however you want them to be, the game already gives you a background and not just any background, you are married and with a child. This is a great limitation.
About the GOTY nomination: I'm not saying it doesn't deserve it, but it doesn't mean much after seeing their pick for many categories... Rocket League best independent game? Her Story best narrative? Undertale and Bloodborne NOT EVEN NOMINATED to best soundtrack? Allow me to laugh dismissively.
Still, as I said at the begining I think Fallout4 is a good game and I enjoyed it.

I love that period of SNL.

All of this is, of course, my opinion. I'm not trying to convince anyone of it.
I'm loving FO4, but then I haven't played the others and so have nothing to compare it to. I just find in immensely entertaining - usually that's what keeps me playing a game.

I can't be picky about FO4 dialogue, because I didn't care for FO3 to begin with.. And I chalk up New Vegas to another team. It'd have been nice if they learned from it though.

Whatever, New Vegas is better than both. (And probably 1 and 2 but I haven't played them yet).
Welp. I wanted to be a vault rat. Might get NV later on.

I agree with that, I never said it wasn't, just stated why I don't think it's better than others.

You know, I am glad that I played DAI first. Because I love pretty much everything about it, but I see so much disappointment and jabbing directed towards its gameplay and its writing. And I wonder if I'd feel similarly disappointed had I played the prior games. This was my first Bioware game, and I feel like even if this is Bioware at their worst (as some people imply), it's still leagues ahead of most games I've played by other companies.
Because it wasn't an ending. The inquisitor said it all when they say they are leaving with more questions than answers. Everything was too vague, I was annoyed. Oh and the "boss" fight, if you can call that a boss, was laughably easy. When a boss fight is that easy after all the build up, kinda kills everything for me.
I actually complained about the difficulty of Trespasser's final boss, though for the exact opposite reason. On nightmare with a two-handed rogue, that fight was insanely difficult and took me hours to finally beat. And given the structure of the ending stretch, I couldn't go back to the palace to respec armor or anything either. The fight wasn't fun at all because I found him ludicrously overpowered with that AOE spell (invulnerability wasn't always ready when I needed it).
Well, what I mean is that even MGS and Resident Evil have unique bosses. I can't think of American shooters like that. Although I'm sure I'm missing something.. I must be.
Mass Effect sort of tries it with Saren/Kai Leng, but it's pretty lame. The Rannoch Reaper wasn't bad though. At least the first time.
Technically MGS and RE are not shooters. The former is a stealth/survival action series, the latter is survival horror/adventure. Both have guns but neither is a shooter in the traditional sense.
I think the final boss for Gears of War 3 was fairly interesting/memorable, at least by shooter standards, though it was unfairly difficult on insane co-op. Otherwise, I'd agree that bosses and story tend not to be the strength of shooter games. Bioshock would be my exception story-wise, but even though the first one is my all-time favorite game I will readily acknowledge that its final boss is hilariously bad.

It wasn't until I read this that it occurred to me how differently I approach RPGs than a lot of folks here (and, probably, everywhere). As someone who doesn't do the whole headcanon/fanfic thing, I don't really roleplay. I pick characters based on game mechanics and appearance, and make story choices primarily based on what I as a player want to experience/see unfold. I've never tried to get inside the head of a character or make decisions based on "their" wants or needs. So things like the married with child thing would never occur to me as a "limitation" because they'd have no impact at all on my approach to these games. But I can see how that sort of thing would seriously impact the game for someone who does want consistent control over their character's history/approach to life.

I played Origins and 2 first and Inquisition is by far my favorite of the 3.
Inquisition- Tier 1/0
2-Tier 2
Awakening-Tier 2
Origins-Tier 3.

Someone explain to the game that CRASHING does not equal FUN.
Hey, I was actually enjoying the game. Like, a whole lot. Won't stop freezing on me, apparently. Never made it past GOAT.
Meh. Worst thing is, I don't regret the money at all, because the game was clearly pretty damn cool, and if it worked fine with Win7, I'd get my monies worth times couple hundred.
