I approach most RPGs this way as well. Inquisition is really the only one I've ever bothered with actual role playing and making head canon. It wasn't until I read this that it occurred to me how differently I approach RPGs than a lot of folks here (and, probably, everywhere). As someone who doesn't do the whole headcanon/fanfic thing, I don't really roleplay. I pick characters based on game mechanics and appearance, and make story choices primarily based on what I as a player want to experience/see unfold. I've never tried to get inside the head of a character or make decisions based on "their" wants or needs. So things like the married with child thing would never occur to me as a "limitation" because they'd have no impact at all on my approach to these games. But I can see how that sort of thing would seriously impact the game for someone who does want consistent control over their character's history/approach to life.

You know, I am glad that I played DAI first. Because I love pretty much everything about it, but I see so much disappointment and jabbing directed towards its gameplay and its writing. And I wonder if I'd feel similarly disappointed had I played the prior games. This was my first Bioware game, and I feel like even if this is Bioware at their worst (as some people imply), it's still leagues ahead of most games I've played by other companies.
I actually complained about the difficulty of Trespasser's final boss, though for the exact opposite reason. On nightmare with a two-handed rogue, that fight was insanely difficult and took me hours to finally beat. And given the structure of the ending stretch, I couldn't go back to the palace to respec armor or anything either. The fight wasn't fun at all because I found him ludicrously overpowered with that AOE spell (invulnerability wasn't always ready when I needed it).
DA:I is my favourite despite playing all the other Drsgon Age and Mass Effect games, and in spite of it's flaws simply because it has elements a lot of other games don't give me: an in depth CC (despite the hair choices, look at how I can tweak a nose -it's amazing!), judgements, great companions with complex relationships. I can't wait until DA:4
Oof, it was even the boss fight that got me, but the swarm just before. I was playing on casual and without Bull it took me hours to get to Solas!

Thank you, lethallan. I'll see what it thinks (and smack it if it talks back at you)
Beers and computers don't mix.
I'll manage to mix them somehow!
Don't tell the computer that.
Yeah! Don't tell Elven rebels something can't be done!

Yrch. Gorram Alien Isolation. I'm still stuck in a corner of the station with a xeno and two of those stupid androids between me and the next area.... which will no doubt be inhabited with more of the same. The creature I can (usually but not reliably) avoid, the two 'droids standing right in the exit not so much. Anything I try to do to get them moved just attracts the Other Thing.

It's been fun - and scary/jumpy! - but when you're just trying to Get All The Things its been annoying to be stuck there for so long and unable to proceed at all...
On the plus side, this mod is keeping the alien off my back completely! Phew! I'll put it back to normal once I've got all these logs.

That'd be a battle I'd long for. Give Jon Snow a lightsaber and put him in a room against Kylo Ren. it could be called the 'battle of the glorious long black locks'.
