it is left open though, even with the youngest child part (human mage or non-mage since only difference is one grows up in the circle instead). Since Inquisitor was written to be anywhere between 25-45-ish years old at the start I think, but not limited to that.

If that's the way you want to see it.

You know I don't. :D

The issue I have is calling them youngest child and being sent to the Chantry.

I'm saying it just begs more questions rather than frees me up. I'd prefer playing a character in their 30s. But if they were sent early on to the Chantry, just how did they get so talented at combat? And if I was a Templar Trainee, then why the **** do I not know anything about Templars or already specced that way? If I was a just a Chantry brother or sister, then how did they get so talented? I can build a story on this, but it seems so unnecessary.. I have to jump through hoops to make it work. When it would have been a lot better if he/she was just a merc like the Qunari. Or any number of criminals like you see in Kirkwall. But no, they have to give that to the ****** dwarf. Who are like only 5% of the fanbase, if DAO is any indication. Thanks for ripping off the better story, guys. :P

Back story was meant to be left for player head canon.

I hate that that is an excuse.

They never say youngest child for mage though. It's specifically left out. Which means I could very well been the first child.. but a disappointing mage. Which works for me. I said before I like the Circle story. I headcanoned plenty with it. :)

I'm reminded of the character Cadfael, the monk Sherlock Holmes during The Anarchy, who used to be a soldier before he took his vows, just as Leliana was a bard before she became a lay sister.

It is not an excuse when they meant it to be that way in the first place.

It's an excuse for not putting in that little bit of effort. Hell, if games start relying on head canon to tell the story, we might as well stop making games and go back to pen and paper. Relying on head canon is simply an excuse to not bother going into the depths of your own story and characters.

How can it be an excuse if they meant it to be that way right from the start? I can see it being one if it wasn't intended and they were left going, "Oh, ****. What should we do about this?". And it's only the backstory for the PC I'm talking about, not the story or characters of the game.
