Yeah, NMM is really, REALLY easy to use, but the cleaning and sorting and stuff... modding has come a long way since copying a file to alter the look of a skyranger in the original X-COM
I needed help, especially with TESV Edit.

OK, why do I need to clean up Master Files? I don't even know what they are.
I just heard of LOOT, for loading. Sounds like a pain in the ass. I need load ordering for mods?

Eh, I overwhelmed you, I'm sorry
A lot of people don't do any of this stuff and just let steam workshop download and manage it and do okay. That said, load ordering will help mitigate a lot of potential crash to desktop issues.
Master files are the files from Bethesda of the game date itself. Apparently, because they personally don't ever have to worry about mods, they're pretty sloppy about having duplicate entries and whatnot. Makes things messy, it seems.

No prob. I'm just used to modding DA.. which is so much more straightforward. Basically drag and drop.

I have never used Loot. I've never "cleaned up master files", like I said. i only use NMM and have never had an issue even when running 200-ish mods. Beren is very complicated about how he goes about it (sorry Bro), and that's fine for some people lol. I'll send a pm on how I do it, nice simple easy and not overwhelming (I hope) since if I can do it, you can as I suck at adding mods to any game other then Skyrim.

OK, no rush though, if you don't have the time. I'd say the weather stuff sounds appealing. And that feeling of "cold" Beren mentioned.
I don't need hair mods or anything. Or *cough* porn. ![]()

Which is one reason I've never modded Skyrim. The other being I've played it for over 300 hours on all three platforms, so I don't want to become dependent on mods or console commands.

Yeah, sorry. Probably best to start out with the Stormy method. ![]()
FWIW, I know what I just did to you and I'm sorry. A friend tried to talk me through using a couple of tools call Wyre-Bash(?) and Mod Organizer and I ended up in a fetal position sucking my thumb. Hyperbole, but that's what I felt like doing. As regards DAO, I even managed to make that complicated! I used DAO-MM instead of the built-in tool. ![]()

Don't sweat it. I could probably warm up to things eventually, but it's Bethesda that created the situation. Not you.

Give us the option to shape the game in the way we want? How dare they? F*** Bethesda amirite?

Start small, then you can end up in Beren's style of stuff as you get used to it ![]()
That's all I suggest, it's an awesome game that i swear is probably only still popular because of the amazing modding mechanics.

Have you kept up with the conversation?
I have nothing against mods. That's why I asked about them. I just thought it was weird that it had problems with "master files" and load ordering. I never heard of this before. It should be drag and drop.

I haven't modded Bethesda games much... but I modded other easily moddable games (that actually have tools released near-simultaneously) before.

I once saw a mod that turned Skyrim's dragons into Macho Man Randy Savage complete with the "Ooh yeah". It. Was. Awesome.

Yes I have, what triggered me was your choice of words.
And having problems with master files has nothing to do with Bethesda, since the mods are not created by them. Also these problems have been there for as long as there have been mods for these games, that's why there are instructions.

I'm going by Beren's advice. He said something about dupe files and how it was designed.
Don't get on my ass for this. lol. I'm just being polite to him, because he seemed to blame himself. That's not what I want. It's no big deal to me.

...sheesh. You mod. If you mod, you backup. It's inevitable.
Then when things go bad, you either have enough backup to get things on track... or you do a fresh install.
Don't blame anyone for the power of modding. It's what makes the PC great (hey, did Bethesda already release modding support for whichever console it was announced for?)

Happens often enough. If someone chooses to mod they know they're risking a big screw-up possibility roflmao

Nope and I doubt they will.
About the only thing I'd want to mod into FO4 is making Vertibirds sturdier but less frequent so it matches up with lore, or my perception of it anyway, but I can live without mods.

Who are you talking to? Me?
Is that what Master Files is? Just backing up?
I'm not blaming anyone though. I just didn't want Beren to feel embarassed about his advice.. Like it was his fault it sounded complicated. It's just the platform. If that still makes you guys want to feel superior and want talk **** to me, then kiss my ass. I was just trying to be friendly, yet I'm causing drama because of this? **** that.

I loved that mod! Course, you can only play it for so long before you have to tear it back out of your system, but yeah, it was great while I had it. Here's a vid for those that want to vicariously enjoy it.
