I love playing DAO, but it is a huge struggle on my PC.  I don't know if it is my hardware or if this is something everyone experiences, but I invariably deal with a slowing down of response times, longer loading screens, etc.  It becomes quite unbearable and I have to quit and restart.  Sometimes I can manage to sneak a good couple of hours before it starts happening, and sometimes it starts happening within 5-10 minutes.  *shrug*

Oh, and the fun CTDs. :D    *HOLY SMI...*  Oh, hello desktop.

DA2 was much more stable, imho, for the PC.  I have no console experience with either to know whether this ever happened on them as well.

It has memory probs for me too, I think. Especially on the highest settings. Some places worse than others (Denerim and Orzammar). I've heard that it's common.

It's much more stable on the 360.. but doesn't look as good.

Huh. Why do you think? I still miss the controls, but finding some of few mods pretty useful.

Seeing as I don't use mods for any DA games that isn't a good comparison for me to make. the controls are much better on da2 console in my opinion, and honestly that's all I care about. pc controls stress me out so I can't enjoy the game as much.

Have you tried Inquisition on console?

Yup, PS4!

Only game I can say I enjoyed more on PC was probably Origins.  But it was such a minor improvement to be barely noticable.  It was still a clunky game with a sometimes bland cast being led by a deaf mute saving the world.

Deaf mute as it is, I always have ideas streaming for my character's personality because of the origin. I can roleplay guilt for a human noble who got the elf girl killed because he wanted a piece of ass.. I can roleplay guilt for Dalish (who killed the humans) or an Aeducan who feels guilt for killing Trian and basically putting his family in a downward spiral. Conversely, I could play a goody guy in the beginning who eventually resents the duty, and feels like they did nothing wrong to deserve it. They could then start making questionable choices as time goes on.

Point is, the origins have a way of shaping my choices long after they're gone. With Inquisition, there isn't much there except the present. And you're basically perceived as the same character, no matter who you are. It doesn't really matter how much effort you put into any of it. You could be dismissive and it's still all the same.

I'm conflicted. I loved DA2's dialogue wheel but I also love how many different choices you had with silent protagonist. Either works for me but for fucks sake if we are going the voiced route then no more ridiculous cheesy lines! *looking at Inquisitor*

Indeed.  But I find character voice to be one of the best ways for me to get into character and sympathize with the character and help get to know them.  How Jen Hale voiced Shepard I could not make her anything but an unrepentant bad ass.  Kinda curious though because AWR didn't really have that ind of voice and Kara is still kinda bad ass, but very different from Abby.

Well, I'll just say I thought Hawke was the best. It wasn't as flexible, but kind of the best of both worlds to me. The whole game was practically an origin story.. but a Human Commoner (and possibly apostate).

Hawke is the best RPG protagonist in history of RPG protagonists.

Best one I've ever played.  Hawk was the only RPG protag with a character arc built into the game's narrative and we did not have to 'head canon' it.  The Warden becomes the Warden essentially before the end of Act 1...or even the prolog.  Shepard became a Spectre in the first ten hours of ME.  Etc. Etc.  They came close with the Inquisitor but Hawk did not become the Champion until almost the very end of the game and was constantly learning and growing and, at least for me and Aeryn, her motivations changed during each act of the game.  Act 1 Aeryn was selfish and very into herself and funding her expedition to the Deep Roads and looking out for her family.  Act 2 she became more entrapreunerial and more secure, but still not willing to make a stand in Kirkwall affairs, until she saw how ****** poor the City's response was to the Qunari threat and how Orsino and Meredith constantly bickered forcing her to act, whereas in Act 3 she was now an active member of the community.  I loved DA 2.

That's cool. Yeah.. I feel like I evolve across Acts or big events too. Some of the romances reflect that too. They're never really sealed until the end.

Hawk may be my favorite from a game design but Abigail is still my fav in terms of my creation.  I put so much thought into her character in the end and she had such a complex character arc.  Which is funny she did a hell of a lot of changing before ME and during ME 1 and then very little and then a hell of a lot of changing after ME.

Abigail

Aeryn

Kara.

Those are my favorite RP protags I have created. :P

I put some effort into my mage for DAI, but grew tired of it because the game felt better as a mundane.. and I got annoyed when JoH came out. Ameridan is enough mage for me.

I'm still trying to figure out a rogue from the Chantry now. I can't decide if he had a wild life once and finally followed what his parents wanted. Or if he slowly cracked. I want to build a story where he finally lost his patience with a family he was consoling.. he snuck out one night and just ended up killing the father of the family. lol. He was abusing his kids and none of his typical Chantry advice worked. Maybe he slowly started doing things like this and hiding it.

Actually, I kind of wanted to rip off Daredevil too. He's a lawyer/doctor of Chantry law somehow. Not a typical Brother.

Actually, I wanted to make parallels with my rogue and Cole. Just the more human version. But they're both assassins.

...

and I thought Kara had issues.

Kara was a borderline atheist and had a break with the family because they conspired to ship her brother off to the Circle of Magi in the iddle of the night to keep the family's honor intact.  She hated politics, the Chantry, and much of nobility as a result.

All of those assassin types have issues. Even Batman :P Granted, he doesn't kill anyone.
