This was the reason I dove into the DQ history books.

June Vallaslin FTW! Well, they can't all be a charismatic, dashing rogue, and able to drink with the best of them. *smirk*

Sometimes they are a snarky mages with a certain tendency for mischief, but with tender and loyal broken heart.

And she totally kick some mustached elf butt in drinking. Or die trying...

Spoiler

Bring on the mead! (BTW dat elf looks good)

EiUZQ22.jpg

The first time they tried to drink each other under the table. I don't remember who won if anyone did. *drink*

We ate Druffy. Me, Paragon and Rivaini.

Last night.

It seems that Paragon explored dismemberment-black_widow style romance option.

Sorry, pal.

It was to yummy to share.

And brought this forward because it made me laugh. Poor Druffy.

Huh? What's that, dripping...

Lyn! That blood?

It's just a flesh wound.

Actually, Ma is a possessive, translated as "My", and in translation, the entire thing would be "My heart", meaning "My love".

Vhenan seems more common, but this other version appears perfectly good, too.

We have been away from the Clan for too long, haven't we...

Yes, I know that. Doesn't stop it from irking me when it's used like that. If you are talking to the person directly, drop the ma. Referring to the person without them there use the ma.

You bring up a valid point...

Is there any kind of rule about this or is it just personal preference (in English)? I've heard "my love" and "my heart" said directly to the person many times.

ETA: Or were you just talking about elven?

As in Happy Days?

I am quoting way too many of these episodes as I watch them.  Way too many of the lines.

I just took a trip into DQ history. Man, were we drunk. (or pretending in my case  )

I occasionally hit one of my bookmarks of some of my favorite moments in DQ history.  It's fun to take trips down nostalgia lane.  Remember when Paragon enraged the entirety of the BSN by stealing all the spare amulets??

Pushes Harding into bar.

Check for tripwires, and no cavorting with HB until it's clear.

Waits for thumbs up from Harding.  Strides up to bar dragging heavy sack.  Heaves sack onto bar.

Cabot stick that under the counter, and set me up with a mead.

Guys (raises tankard in greeting) chugs.

Heh heh heh, that sack's full of amulets of power, I've been running round Thedas collecting them all, hehehe!

I've never heard anyone say 'ma vhenan' directly to the person. I go by Solas always saying 'vhenan' direct to Lavellan. Also Telana when you hear her on the island trying to find Amerida it's always just 'vhenan' as she's trying to speak to him. The closest you get is with Solas when he says, "Ar lath ma, vhenan" (I love you, heart). Notice the comma separating ma and vhenan. Now, Solas will greet a romance with "my heart" but it's in the king's tongue and not elven. This is just what makes most sense in my mind.

You know calling this place the Banquisition would not work for me because there are very few interesting people here in that way, all my interests lie...elsewhere. :P

Why thank you, Foley. I think we're all the happier now, with that added info  :D

The young woman used to host some shows on NPR. I think she still does. She's funny and intelligent. Faith Salie. But I haven't seen her in anything TV/film wise again.

I can teach you the ways of pushing it all under your bed and other places you won't look at on accident so you'll at least forget about it's existence for a second.   *looks at papers stuffed in corners all over the place*

Bashir is the one Trek actor besides Patrick Stewart who never got typecasted.. he gets a lot of good roles.

She is so adorable in this role too.  Way too smart for me though. :P

Sidig El Fadil is on my list for best most underated actor ever.  He is awesome.  Julien was probably my second favorite DS9 character.
