Huh, it seems astroligically speaking there is a reason I find Aries so enticing. *shrugs* I could have sworn last time I looked into this this was 'could be great but watch out' sort of deals.
Anyways, Foley is finally off to bed. ****. ![]()

Perhaps it's a guy thing. I live in a girl gamer household. We all got bored with it. Of course we are a sampling of three, two RPGers and one Mario type.

Oh np. I just hate mmo type of stuff. I love Destiny's basic idea, but it's not very conducive to a single player/story oriented person. Which is where Bethesda wins.

I'd say the lore across the whole game, and the narrative once you hit The Taken King, are in fact excessively superior to the story offerings of most shooters (though Borderlands definitely has better characters). I've played 95% of the content solo, and I've enjoyed it quite a bit.
But that's the genre. If you don't like shooters then Destiny's story will neither make or break the game for you. Comparing it to anything Bethesda makes is apples to... like, broccoli ![]()

I like shooters.
I tried playing the Beta and was turned off though. Other players ruin it for me instantly. Once people start kill stealing, and just running around everywhere bunny hopping (like they do), I'm not in the "game" anymore. There isn't any amount of story that will fix that.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you haven't played Destiny since The Taken King launched, your opinions are based on a game that no longer exists and has been improved upon in all imaginable ways. I alpha and beta tested the game but never ended up actually playing it. I read complaints which mirrored my own concerns. But with the latest iteration of the game Bungie has entirely overhauled what the game and community are. They gave life to their characters, expanded the world, brought in cutscenes, and even re-recorded the entirety of the ghost's dialogue with a new actor.
Kill-stealing isn't really a thing in campaign, since you get credit for all deaths that happen in your vicinity and since everyone gets separate rewards and random drops. That said, if you're looking for some diegetic barrier to the reality that this is a game about millions of long-dead soldiers resurrected to explore the solar system together and uncover mysteries and fight invading armies -- which means encountering tons of other people who may, among things, "bunny hop," then yeah you're probably not in for a good time. PvP is obviously a whole different ballgame but since you're talking about story I'm assuming that you're not referring to Crucible.

It's nice to know they've improved it. It still seems like a cool setting.
But yeah, I hate even seeing other players. What can I say? lol. At best, I like competitive shooters in spurts.. but this kind of co-op/mmo thing can disappear for all I care. I'm more into games as escapism.. but the bigger trend now is making games as an extension to people's social lives. I don't like where any of it is going.

I suppose that's fair. Though it's hardly a new thing, especially where shooters are concerned. As a genre, FPS games have always had their life in the multiplayer. Campaign trains you, multiplayer sustains you. With Bungie, that's particularly true: remember, people wanted to play Halo socially before it was even an online game (Xbox Connect and other workarounds were big before Xbox Live launched around the time of Halo 2).
This is one of the first MMOs on a console and definitely the first successful shooter-only MMO. As such, multiplayer isn't so much a feature as it is the core of the game. And the game isn't a product as much as it is a service, a la MMO. But I don't see that as a trend, per se. This is a unique case.

But that's competitive FPS. And barely requires socializing, unless you're in a guild or something.
This whole other trend is for extroverts. Yet they are extroverts who are still lonely enough to somehow need a social outlet...and rely on games for that.
I'm just introverted, I think. I'm both isolated, willingly, and don't need the outlet.
