I cannot really speak to the accent itself as I've not really been exposed to that much south Boston accent in my life. However, it's the only time I've seen him outside of Sherlock and Star Trek, and I thought he did quite well in the role.
I have trouble taking stern face seriously without glorious mustache to back it up.
