I adore my precious head canon for all my elves. That may or may not include the moustache being canon as well. ![]()

Elves are easy to work with too. I just didn't want to play one.
I want the damn Merc or Smuggler, but human. They robbed me... ![]()
Well, I had to spend way too long to even find a good headcanon. It's not intuitive for me (the human mundane). Funnily, it was with Al's help that I honed in something.
At launch, I played a human mage.. much easier backstory to work with. But boring gameplay.
My headficcanon revolved entirely around extra romance and romance-related scenes for my Inky and Sera, though

Beyond that I didn't need anything else to place my Inky where she was - the game contained sufficient information for that. Even for the vashoth!
I like the Merc as I said above. Very easy to work/little gets in the way. Other than being a Qunari.
Mostly, I hate the "youngest child" line for the humans. That's pigeon holing. Not making the game as open as the other options. The mage doesn't have the line, so that's cool. I did workarounds in my head on why my character is over 30. He's a Chantry brother, but it's even worse if you wanted to be a Templar or Templar trainee. They seemingly know nothing about Templars, when they ask NPCs about it.

Is that nothing at all, period, or just nothing about the inner workings, as it were? I'd think it's a bit like knowing about the police, but not being aware of how much actual legal matters they have to know to do their job. So less "Templars, lol, what's that" and more "wait, Templars have to do what?"
Well, if they're the youngest child, and sent to the Chantry, and a warrior intended to join the Order... then I expect more preparation. It's just generic dialogue for an ignorant player. There's no characterization here. I can ony assume they're exceptionally young. Which is gross. I don't want to play that.
At least with a Chantry cleric or researcher or something, I can feign ignorance and still be old.
I'd rather not think about any of it and just be a Merc. Which is what it was before they put these races in.

I guess I don't see why they'd have to be young, though I guess that depends on how much you feel they've been dodging their "responsibilities" and for how long. Maybe if they were super obsessed with becoming a Templar it would stand out more, but only if detailed info on Templars was widely available.
Otherwise, yeah, you just got to accept the "new player" stuff and move on. Get a more selective memory, maybe
Even dodging responsibilities becomes unmanageable after awhile. 10-15 years of that? And if they were 30+ and slumming it all this time, then I'd like to hear about this worldly life they had. With a Merc, you can already assume they had that life. This, you have to jump through hoops to get to the same place. It could be interesting even.. but not this way.
It doesn't help that the Dwarves in Vallamar call you a young brat or something, trying to impress other nobles. This is the Archetype they're going for when you pick a human. It sucks. It was better until they rewrote and rearranged everything.
Then talk about something else. I don't care. I don't want to be THAT guy. ![]()
You and Serza killed the thread with your history lesson.
Ah, bite me...
Good grief! It's an actual bone fide valued discussion!
Splendid, isn't it.

And somewhere before this point, kids, is where this fine example of Elven Glory ran out of likes.
very discussion much DA
such valued

Uh... They say you can stick it away, half a box of whiskey every day...
And you gimme nuthin'. I need to get sloshed to survive this valued discussion!

It's the problem with having the backgrounds too open, as opposed to having them too defined (like ME or DA2) - either way has its limitations and they can only write in so much compatibility with them.
I don't mind one or the other. This is the worst of both worlds. Pigeon holed, but no real characterization. The human, I mean. Not others.
I could work plenty with ME.. because it had combos. Default Earthborn/SS is a different beast from Earthborn/War Hero. And that in turn is much different than Colonist/War Hero.
I don't know why people are complaining, got tons to drink about if they don't like the discussion, and don't even need to leave the bar to find a reason to drink!
Keep those ciders coming, Cabot!

I was gonna say.. with Shepard it's kind of neat. Switching those origins up, little as they are, makes new things jump out at me. All of the Sole Survivors remind me of Krogan endurance and a little bit of Ripley from Aliens. The War Hero reminds me of Die Hard, but really changes if you're Earthborn. Then you're like a thug who manages something heroic. Colonist is ultimate Paragon. That's a double Paragon boost. But Colonist/Ruthless has a huge chip on their shoulder.

I guess that's why I have less if an issue with it than you, then, as I've never played the human Inquisitor.
I understand. I'd do what you did, but I don't like the Qunari here. Maybe the next game. And the humans would have had the Merc background apparently (or at least it was one of them) before the extra races. From what I can tell, it sounded as open as Shepard.
If they're gonna have all of the races, then I'd prefer Origins.. or do what TES does: Nothing. Then they're all open ended. But don't tie half assed stories to race options.

I was just being facetious. And it was a good excuse to post that screen shot of Bray.
