I imagine so. I'd love to be near the Alps or something.
All the countryside looks pretty, in fact.

Yeah pretty much everywhere I went was amazing all the time.
Went to like a waterfall literally inside a mountain, took a train up to like some quaint town in the hills, more things I don't remember...
To be completely honest a lot of France paled in comparison.... a lot of the central urban France areas were kind of suffocating IMHO.
Aren't you Swiss? That'd explain a lot...
Yes, I am.
SadlyI didn't learn much abaut WWII in school. ![]()
Which is probably mostly the fault of the class in the room next to mine, back when I was in 7th-9th grade.
Tbh I would've loved it, if we had learned more about world history instead of only "swiss history" (we learned a little about Napoleon, the Red Cross and about the barque period in 7th grade, but I think that was it.)

Well, think of it this way. As an adult, you can waste all kinds of time (like me) learning history. And it'll be fun..... mostly. ![]()
I barely even went to school myself. I skipped almost everything. It was only later that I cared..

Sounds cool, where in Switzerland did you go? If I may ask? ![]()
I went to France once too.
My class and the other class (the one from above) once went on a shared class trip to Paris for a week.
That was cool, we got to see the Notre Dame, Sacre Cœur, the L'Arc the Triomph and watched an opera ![]()
Sadly the Louvre was closed because of renovation. ![]()

That is true
I never skipped, I like learning, I just didn't like my classmates. ![]()
Yeah, from what I remember of school, there wasn't much world history either. Same deal here... Abolitionists and New Englanders. But I'm in Texas, so there was the Texas Revolution and the Alamo.
What's funny is that foreigners seem to know about the Alamo more than anything. ![]()

Yeah we hit all the major points of France, Notre Dame, the Arc which by the way was a totally insane thing from a traffic perspective, but yeah Eiffel Tower which was way bigger than I expected.
Louvre of course was ginormous also so we ended up just going to the Egyptian section, it's basically like an underground labyrinth, I think someone said it was like the size of... well I don't know, it's huge though. Plus Mona Lisa, etc, which, I must confess, never liked that painting lol (here comes straykat going to ridicule me again!)
I have to say though Chartres and the Chartres cathedral were the most interesting to me, and just once you get more in the countryside in general it was just, I don't know, a lot more appealing to me.
Well lets see I don't remember exactly but we definitely went through Bern, and then a bunch of havens and hovels kind of thing. I could find the exact places from the pictures and stuff but can't remember off the top of my head. ![]()
Sorry that wasn't much of an answer
you have made me curious though maybe I'll go back and check.

Lol sorry I hid the post again... I just saw the conversation going one way and wanted to join it but yes nothing to hide it's true, in America you learn about Abolitionists and New Englanders, lots of crusty Yankees um and such and such.
Lincoln was good, the others were whatever basically, I don't know, something like that. Jackson democratic revolution, just a bunch of Jacksons. Honestly it's mostly just told via Presidents.
But yeah there is nothing about anything else ever really.
It's the same even if you take a "World history" class you get like "Oh there was an Indus Valley" or "Oh there was China" and that's basically... it.
Don't get me wrong, I like that history... Especially the abolitionists.. but I'm probably more interested in the Renaissance. Which I never learned in school. And I like WW1 as well, as I was telling Serza.

Yeah I took European history basically any time it was offered anywhere, and then just straight up went to Europe and whatever, my interest in America was pretty much always nominal.
That said, it seems to me I was still getting the short shrift because European history like all happened in the "Dark/Middle Ages" and the Renaissance is just kind of this boring thing that rolled along afterwards.
Something like WWI didn't just "materialize" out of thin air right? So from one perspective it's "Well why did this one thing happen?" And it's like you realize there have been people fighting in those areas for like the last 1600 years right? Did you really expect the 1601st year to be any different?

The Medici aren't boring. It's like having the Mafia ruling a part of Europe.. and then installing their own Popes.
And they wonder why the Reformation happened...

Ah, Bern, our de facto capital
Did you go to the Bear Park?
BTW, this is from where I got most of my history knowledge and I love it. ![]()

Haha! Well at least you call it like it is... yeah the Medici were a kind of mafia, but still I find Machiavelli and all that pretty boring, all things considered.
So their house words were "Dang it feels good to be a banker?" right ![]()

You know to be completely honest that place looks sort of familiar (because it just kinda looks like Bern I guess?) But I don't think we ever went to a Bear Park haha looks like we missed out! ![]()
I feel so vague, ok so I'm pretty sure we definitely went to Chateau Chillon on Lake Geneva, wow that place was pretty nice

And you can go around the lake and all? Yeah I think Geneva itself was a pretty cool lake in general to be honest.
You know what I would have liked to do? Call in a pizza order down to Wichita for my mom, but have it delivered by someone in a volus outfit.
Ladies and gentlemen, I have to showcase the wonderful work of my dear buddy, Paragon! It's so awesome!

4200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I missed 4200 ![]()

*Reading about details* Oh yes this is right, yeah and you kind of go along the lake? Mmmmhmm.
don't worry, I wasn't there in years, last time I was there, it was still called "Bärengraben" (Bear Trench)
Oh nice
Chateau Chillon is pretty (even tho I haven't been there myself yet *cough*)

You just reminded me of the only WWII movie I like. Life is Beautiful. Even thinking about it makes me sad. ![]()
4200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

420 times ten!

Yup, he's happy.
Thanks

Well... It is sad.
I still haven't seen that. Maybe I'll rent it.
Last recent WW2 movie I liked was the Pianist.
The Pianist, Life is Beautiful, etc, were all interesting I think I've seen most of them.
I really think Enemy at the Gates is somewhat underrated especially the OST
I also saw it much later but I thought Downfall was a super interesting WW2 movie to be honest.
I haven't seen that either.
But I've seen many overdubbed clips ![]()
Sup thread. How's everyone been enjoying their weekend so far?
