I hate it too... because I feel compelled to come up with complicated ones. Like GH462lp6J4

Exactly. Tho I started using normal words/names and just change some letters to numbers. This way I can remember it easier.  ^_^

Funnily it didn't kick my phone, even tho I have the tumblr app on it.  Could even write a post while I still haden't changed my password.

Edit: ToP Greed meeting Ameridan

Secret Questions are my  bane more than passwords these days, it's like your favorite high school teacher?

And I'm all

"What's highschool?"

"Which grades/school years are highschool"?

(I never know if I went to highschool, or not if I talk about my school years with friends from the US...)

I'm kidding. I had highschool. I just got kicked out so much that I dropped out...I don't remember any teachers. Then went to some Catholic school for awhile.. then left that and got a GED. Went to college a bit afterwards.

Ah :o

Then I didn't go to highschool

9th grade was my last (regular) school year. If I don't count the year in the BWS (Berufswahlschule = lit. job choosing school) and the year in the BIP (Berufs Integrations Programm = lit. job integration programm (basically an internship with 1 day school + 4 days work))

Which would bring me to 11 school years.

Edit: 9 years school is pretty normal here, except if you go to the Gymnasium after 6th grade, then you might have more.

After the 9th grade you normally start an apprenticeship. I couldn't find one for two years, which is why I did one year of BWS, respectively BIP.

I wish America had more things like that. I would've been better off. Trade schools (at those ages) are pretty much nonexistent here.

Yeah... I think most people would be shocked at the extremes to which American systems diverge from, probably any other country in the world.

It all stems on some level I believe from the extremely religious nature of the country (Puritans, because apparently Anglo-Saxon England was just too conservative for them somehow... it's like saying Corn Bread is a luxurious delicacy and excessively sugary)

Probably.

Is it true that internship isn't paid in the US? Or do I confuse that with something else?

I'm mostly confused

Yeah, could be, idk.

I found a nice chart about the Swiss educational system.

390px-Schweizer_Bildungssystem.svg.png

Basically:

we have:

2 (in some cantons 3) obligatory years in kindergarden.

6 obligatory years in primary school (grades 1 - 6)

3 obligatory years in secondary school (grades 7 - 9)

and after that it's pretty much open what you want to do:

go to the gymnasium

start an apprenticeship <-- most common choice

and after that you could:

go to the University/ETH  <-- after that you could get the title of Doctor/Professor

go to some other kind of professional training/professional school

As you can see, we can count to 12.

I guess it depends on the company. Non-paid interns seem more common though.

*sniffles*  All this school talk...   The last of my nine nieces and nephews are graduating from high school this year.  One niece and one nephew.  That's it.  All of them are all grown up now.

Aha :o

Here each canton regulates the law about the payment for interns. (as far as I know)

So companies have to pay their interns, or they render themselves liable to prosecution.

(yes I did have to copy that from the dictionary, Maker is that a mouthful )

I wish I could go back in time and actually do the highschool thing.

Not that I'm weighed down with regret... it just seems more fun than what I did.

There really isn't a good solution IMO.... what I did was basically try and spend as much time invested in nerdy/geeky things and trying to be current with an actual sort of realistic understanding of the world, while also filling in the obligations of a generic American HS.

So I never rebelled or anything, but I also felt like I was always insanely busy because it was like 2 lives at once.

I was pretty much the only one that did things that way everyone else into games or whatever basically just said screw it all.... although I guess perhaps influenced by me (or maybe just some other factors.. I don't know..) some started to try in school.

Wow  :o

Cool chart, finally an explanation for Freshman-Senior

NP! And remember, almost everyone always looks down on every other person in the other class for being less!

And hey wasn't Switzerland in the news because of some "Basic income" idea? Thingy?

Oh me too.

Well, I might have went to Gymnasium after the 3rd year of secondary school, if I had known that you could learn different things than just become a doctor.  -_-

That was my exact thought reading that chart too xD

It always confused me.

Australia's states have been slightly different until recently (for which grades are considered highschool for starters)

When I went to school it got broken down into:

prep - preperation year, ages 4-5.

Years 1-7 : primary school . ages 5-11/12

years 8-12 : highschool. ages 12-17/18

That used to be correct. However I believe my state now considers year 7 as the first year of highschool, which now lasts 6 years instead of 5.

Once a student reaches year 10, they are given the choice to either continue schooling to graduate highschool or to find a trade/apprenticeship and work instead. Yes, our apprenticeships/interns have a set minimum wage for each year of experience (it increases from 1st year to 4th year).

Ah, interesting :o

Cool =) here the wage for apprenticeships increases which each year too.

Most of them go 2-3 years (I did a 3 year apprenticeship as a Logistics Assistant), some go 4 years, that depends on the job you want to learn.

Yeah 2-4 years generally here too so sounds quite similar. Just put 4 years because that's the max time that I know of haha

Sometimes I'm thinking about doing a second apprenticeship to learn a different job.

I just don't know which job I want to learn.
