I've only read The Last Wish and Sword Of Destiny.  They provide excellent background to the games.

I finished reading Blood of Elves last night for the second time.

I've been reading more than playing or watching stuff since I got my hands on The Last Wish a few days ago, so good

 

The Last Wish is a great book. I love the short stories, and it's really good to know the backstory of Geralt's and Yennefer's relationship. I'm on the Sword of Destiny now, but am in the middle of reading the Harry Potter books. I'll get back to it afterwards.

Nope, I want to finish all the books and watch playthroughs of the previous games (maybe play 2? not sure). I want to understand the references and everything that happens. My view of Geralt and that universe in general have changed drastically (and positively) since I read the first book.

I'm not actually a fan of Yen/Geralt... more in the Triss camp here. Even if it isn't "canon". Maybe because Witcher 2 was the first thing I played.

I think its a good idea to read before playing. During my PT, I actually jumped with delight when certain characters were introduced - even if just briefly. The books certainly added a whole new dimension to the game, whereas if you don't have that information, those characters are easily dismissed as insignificant. Not to jump on The Witcher bandwagon, but I am SO excited for Blood and Wine .
