The Beast appears to avenge wickedness. The villagers are NOT nice people, they just blamed the beast on an outsider like Abigail instead of looking in the mirror. They are members of the church of the eternal fire and that should tell you all you need to know.

But Abigail is NOT a nice person either and certainly has engaged in her own skullduggery. She's just innocent in regards to the appearance of the Beast.

Oh, she is.  She most certainly is using the wickedness of the villagers for her own fun and profit. She just isn't the cause. I love witcher 1 because the moral choices can get REALLY muddy like this in it
