*** BREAK BREAK BREAK  ***

For those who inexplicably do not yet own Dragon Age:  Origins, it is now available on GOG as a DRM-free purchase for $7.99 for the ultimate edition.  I may just buy it again just to not have to deal with whatever the hell EA Origin did with it as regards farking up the DLC and mod loads and so forth.

https://www.gog.com/

Also Dead Space and Sim City 3000 Unlimited available DRM-free.

What did they do with mod loads? I run it fine. Hell, that's the one of easier games to mods. Just drag and drop for most.

Man, I don't know what they did, but whenever I reinstall my digital deluxe version of Origins for Origin (well that's not confusing) it goes wonky as hell.  I'd rather just continue to use the Dragon Age Mod Manager that I always used to manage my mods and DLCs, but origin updated it to auto-load the DLCs and it whacked stuff up all to hell.  It's always a nightmare to reconfigure it after an installation now.

Plus, I sometimes get these dang physics (physix?) errors that I have to go look up how to fix every time.

Oh, is that outdated already? :P

Pen and Paper

I've always called them tabletop, never heard PnP before, so not sure if its outdated or just regional, but tabletop rpgs are still alive!

^ It's one of the best! I used to re-watch that one all the time. I can't believe how cheesy spectacular the theme was in retrospect lol.

Spoiler

I think honestly the best edition of Arthur I read was literally like your storybook version you can find in like an elementary school library or something. The worst I thought was actually The Once and Future King, pure torment to read that....post-modern King Arthur.... yay.....

I never saw Excalibur... just never got around to it. I still don't think I've seen something that really captured King Arthur well.. I think it's just a simpler story than people imagine it to be, just like some cool guy with his knights, rolling around doing good deeds for the common people, nothing really super epic or mythical about it in many respects, well though once again as long as you ignore the enormous world shattering conflict and deaths due to wars with Saxons.

Incest isn't in the earliest Arthurian tellings, but there was definitely something always kind of morbid and different about Mordred in all the stories... kind of made him more mysterious and exciting to me though I guess ^_^\

I really like the Clive Owen King Arthur, but it doesn't have any of the magic or mythical stuff

can someone switch my iv bag with Gentleman Jack *hiccup* I can't stand up...

I don't know if I want to suggest Excalibur. Maybe it's dated now. Haven't seen it in awhile, but it was cool at the time. It wasn't Conan the Barbarian, but none of those movies were.

For me, Excalibur is pretty much definitive "shiny armour, grail and everything" Arthurian film. Plus, marvellous Nicol Williamson as Merlin. And loads of other great actors.

Mmn, it's like having other people play your companions, except you all kind of get to be the inquisitor :P

That's a pretty good way to explain it really!

I remember a couple of the Critical Role guys saying in the first of the Q&A sessions that the thing that really blew their minds the very first time they played was that they really could do (or at least try to do) anything they set their mind to... unlike CRPGs which are naturally much more limited in that respect. They're awesome in their own way too, of course, goes without saying.

I did see the Clive Owen Excalibur, it was a solid movie but as you say it wasn't really focused on the magical part of King Arthur, Merlin, etc.

I might see that other one someday, to be honest I think it's been video games like Dark Age of Camelot that got a lot of the feel down, Lyonesse, Stonehenge, the city of Camelot, Cornwall, plus I thought the interpretation of Vikings and such as "Midgard" and the Irish etc as like "Hibernia" was pretty interesting, played that game a lot once upon a time.

I still don't know a game that did dyes better.

On the subject of D&D yeah our campaigns were always sublimely silly, basically I was always provoking fights because I wanted the exp so... um... it was  a bit chaotic at times.

I'll always remember Pidgey because my first catch as well, consequently has a special place of some kind.

My favorite (non rare, Mew) Pokemon was and always will be Gyrados I think.

I wonder what Gyrados is in German, probably something cute again.

I bet you'd like it Lynroy...so long as you're with friends. I'm pretty anti-social, but I'd play it with friends myself.

But you're a writer and an RPG player.... it's tailor made for you. :P

It's the friends thing that is a problem--I don't have any. Or at least, they all live on the other side of the country and I was really the only one that played video games.

Ha, writer. I wouldn't consider myself one. :P

Writing about specific stuff in short bursts, ie a video game character, and being a writer are two different things!

I write sometimes, but I'm horrible at it. xD

I struggle to make up stuff from scratch, so write about well.. video game characters that are in an already predetermined setting with a plot. I also despise changing what's already said in story, so just flesh it out without changing stuff, just adding extra non stuff...

I stand corrected :D

My problem is the friends thing too. Most of the old RPG friends moved. It's not a chore when you play this way though. You're just bs'ing with friends and happen to have something to do at the same time. Kind of like cards.

I'd rather stick to cards.

I have to wash this Pepsi out of my armor (glares at Dazzle) and then go out for a jaunt with flycam.

Moving can definitely be a jarring thing, I've definitely had people I would talk to regularly pack up for various reasons to go elsewhere. *sigh*

At least it's not an issue from a consumer standpoint, or just connection in general, it's easy to buy stuff from people/companies etc you like from just about anywhere in the world right now, was even true to a certain degree before.
