Sometimes I wonder if parts of The Silmarillion could be adapted as a mini series or series, assuming it's done with care and reverence.

Hm... never got me. I always need some time. And everytime in short stories when I grow fond of the characters, the whole thing is over.

 

I almost wept when I read that Tolkien and his wife's gravestones say Beren and Luthien.  Like.. greatest love story EVEH!

I could try. But as I know from my landlords (who live right next to me), they only use their internet to connect with their smartphones so they can whatts app. So... might not be successful even if it's a success As I said:

OH, just don't let Jackson do it!  I think the best solution would be for Showtime or HBO to partner with BBC and make it a one or two parter for each chapter.

FWIW, I have to second (or third) the others. It would be a hard series to just jump in on watching. Btw, anyone here ever read Tad Williams' trilogy, Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn? Good stuff...

Hey bud! One of my fave bits (always makes me cry among many others, but so much laughter too) when Eowyn stands over Theoden 'Begon foul dwimmerlaik, Lord of carrion, leave the dead in peace!' The bit where he taunts and says 'no man may harm me' and she laughs and says 'no man am I'. I stream with tears every time when she cuts the bastard down. Book did it so much better.

Agree with GoT, have to start from the beginning now - at least some of the gifs will start to make sense

That sounds eerily like my situation. But there are some things to be said for the countryside... for instance yesterday I looked out the window and saw two ravens doing it, so that was fun

It would be the best format for an adaptation.  To make a trilogy out of it or something similar would force the director to keep a lot of relevant stuff from the book out of the movies. It would destroy the story.

Tolkien himself even partitioned the story in several parts, making it easier to split the adaptation into seasons.
