Cheer up, bro. It's always tough starting out especially with those daggers you have there. Keep your weapons and armor up to date, and go to each story mission at the highest recommended level. Gather plenty of elf root too, regen potions are your friend. *drink*

If you're going for the trophy you have to change it before you finish the prologue.

Haha, yeah!  When I went to bed last night, I'd finally saved it at Haven where Dis is about ready to go to the Hinterlands for the first time.  The save is showing 3:30 game time already.  I was freaked out and just kept sweeping Haven for elfroot and other  stuff.  Made me a couple of decent daggers and better armor already for me and Varric.  Er, armor for Varric, not daggers.

 

Still, it's never gonna be easy for me.  I just really do suck at the combat.  Earning those acheivements in previous DA and the ME games were brutal affairs.  Dear Lord, I still have nightmares (no pun intended) over that Battlemaster fight saving Liara in ME1.

You sure didn't make it easier by going with daggers. :lol: Worst thing to start out with, imo. As I mentioned earlier, the most difficult part is pre-Skyhold. In Your Heart Shall Burn will be the hump you need to get past. If you can do that, you can stick it to Coryphifish.

I didn't really enjoy the two handed and found it too slow and clunky.

The key to two handed warrior is the Parry stance. Every time, all the time. It's also an instacast; you can cancel your own animations with it, even mid-swing.

 

Also later, Unbowed gives you twice the guard as Battlecry, yet it doesn't give you aggro. Before reaching that, Charging Bull is a good way to get out of tricky situations and build up a little guard.

 

Also, you're pretty much a rogue. Charge into combat second & attack your foes from behind or the side for flanking damage; +20% weapon damage calculated for a greatsword is something to consider.

Not pertaining to the immediate beginning of the game, but....

 

I crafted a two-handed sword called Shemlen Reaper(i think that was its name. It's in a box now) for my elfy elf at fairly low level. It had a chance to cast chain lightning on hit and i wore armor that gave guard on hit. And i got back stamina based on how many mobs i hit per swing (talent i think). My whirlwinds were endless things of beatuy and lightning-infused bloody majesty  *drinks*

I didn't really enjoy the two handed and found it too slow and clunky.

 

I much preferred it in DA:2.

I don't like melee much at all (GIVE ME MY BOW, DAMN IT!), but two handed was easier for me at the beginning. I didn't do well with daggers until I picked up a pair of dual blades. I love those dual blades. *drink*
