I think Vivienne is a lot warmer towards a mage Herald then any other class.

Aren't they the best fights though! Honestly, the one fight I had that I enjoyed so much was in the Emerald Graves, I was just minding my own fecking business bringing down a giant and he brought all his buddies and their attack brontos. That was my PS3 mage playthrough, I think my party was the original one - Varric, Cass and Solas. It went on forever - it was the BEST fun. *Drinks to fond memories* Does anyone miss the old tactical menus though? I miss them so much, sniffles morosely. I wonder why they swapped them out.
With regard to Vivienne, I just can't get excited about her - I also think she finished Bastien off.
They really are some of the best fights. TBH I don't miss the old tactics. I never used them except to prevent Alistair from using a couple abilities (taunt, threaten) that were hazardous to his health.

Yeah, I always had to use them to prevent Morrigan from friggin' freezing half the party during a fight. Crazy witch and her cone of cold...

I rarely touched tactical menus in any of the Dragon Age games, not my way of playing. Did fine without them, but understand how most players used them constantly.

I let Morrigan go nuts. Being an Archer I didn't care, I was not in danger of being turned into a popsicle. I was the one freezing my party with that when I played a mage! Poor Alistair and my dog always in the line of fire--I mean ice... "Oops, sorry, Alistair....Ha ha got you again! ....Bah, you're a Templar, you can shake it off before the other guy."

I'm excited because I've got Champions of the Just in this (elf archer) playthrough and I've never done it before. *jumps up and down* There's no way I'm doing it unless I'm level 10 or over on nightmare though.
I've seen the drunk Cass vid before but I'm not sure I can go through with it. I've also yet to do an evil playthrough, but it's gonna hurt. *Drinks*
Edit: Ah battery alert! Later DQ *grabs bottle and heads out.*

I love Champions of the Just quest line. I just always go with mages solely for Cullen's advisor quest to hunt Samson.

Beware Envy, he's a tricky bastard, but his arrows are easy to dodge if you have Evade.

I thought it was very interesting and fun, but I have a soft spot for mages (and I don't like to kill Alistair's mother) so In Hushed Whispers is usually what I choose.

Yep. Those too, soft spot for mages, not killing Fiona, plus I majority of the time am playing a mage as well so it makes more sense then waltzing into a fortress full of templars.. I always wish there was a dialogue option for my Inquisitor (mage) to sarcastically say "right a mage walking into a Templar fortress, yes nothing is going to go wrong here. Nothing at all" . and then on returning to haven "I friggin' told you so!"

I actually loved tinkering with the Tactics to come up with an automatism for any possible situation. In DA2 I overdid it to the point where Hawke was basically no longer required to win most fights.
I really miss giving companions actual target priorities. On the other hand, they buffed the general health of mobs to the point where you would no longer just send your rogue to quickly take out any mage first, since it would take them forever. The most tactical I get is to control Blackwall, have him run in & use Battle Cry, then direct the entire party to attack the mage, and see where it takes us.

HA! Yep, did the same thing with my elemental mage. Had no problem whatsoever freezing my party (or fireballing them) if I felt it would help the overall effort. I used to love tracking the insane amount of party damaging friendly fire my elemental mage caused.

oh, too late for a 1-2hr snooze then or you won't sleep tonight. Go eat a healthy snack, it may help a little, giving you a bit more energy. A sandwich is always good, even if it's just jam and butter or something.

Hey, speaking of mages... I have never done the Knight-Enchanter specialization yet. Frankly, when I play a mage, the last thing that interests me is wading into the the thick of battle, so KE just hasn't really held any appeal for me. However, I've been looking at its passives and I am thinking of getting it just for those alone. They really seem like some nice defensive buffs. Any play suggestions for a KE who wouldn't be whipping out a magical blade?

I almost always play KE spec. How I do it is only putting enough points into it to get the passives I want from it, I rarely use any of the active abilities from the tree. Let me load up a KE save and I'll be more specific.

Ok, I usually go the left hand side of the tree for the passives, all of which are better when your mage throws barriers on itself. So Combat Clarity for mana regen in combat when near hostiles, Fade shield for a stronger barrier the more damage you do, Knight Protector for barriers you create to take longer to decay.Veiled Riposte is from the right hand side and handy too as enemies that hit you while a barrier is active get damaged. That's pretty much it, I don't use the active abilities, just the passives.
And point plus upgrade barrier in spirit tree or it's almost useless haha!
Edit: after that, sit back at range and smash enemies, KE is good for offensive and defensive, and at its best against high dragons

Ouch, yeah may be more helpful if you did head home unfortunately. Just try not to nap before 8pm , or you'll be up stupidly early.. or stay awake stupidly late.
