OK one of the biggest questions of game design for me, is classes or just to have all skills available to all players (best example Skyrim) and let them forge their own mix and match characters? Both have their strength and weaknesses though whenever I think about it...I waffle. Constantly going between the two. Mind you this is likely a decision I will never have to make...

Depends really. Preferably, I prefer RPG's let me level a character however I want, because generally, I prefer to play as warriors/fighters with a more sneaky element to them. I can't really do that with class systems.

Yeah, just thinking about the fantasy series. Mind you mages throw another little kink in the whole problem.

Yeah. It's generally why I prefer RPG's that let me take whatever path I want. Like in The Elder Scrolls. I can use magic but wear heavy armour and carry a shield. It makes for a more creative and player immersed character in my opinion.

But really though if you want to make magic important, and make an important point with magic then you need either a system to seperate magic from non magic wielders...or a pure class system.

If it's in a game like Dragon Age, where Magic is discriminated against etcetera, then yes, you would need a class system, because it would break lore otherwise. If it's like Skyrim or any other world where magic isn't looked down upon, then no, you don't need a class system.

People...
Mr B.B. King died today. I have literally just read it. This might not be the place for it, and he was allowed to live for 89 years, too, but this kind of hit me like a truck.
You may not be into the Blues as I am, you may not have grown up with his music since you were a wee lad, it may not have gotten you through some very turbulent tunes in any decade of your lifetime, and you may not even be aware of it, but he is more or less responsible for pretty much anything you can hear on the radio today.
We have just lost one of the last remaining living legends.
Yeah... son of a b*tch. Thanks for listening and most importantly excuse me in advance if my performance today should be less entertaining or lighthearted than usual.
I had to re-read that because first I thought you were just a bit late getting the word on Ben E. King, who died a couple of weeks ago. Now B.B. King as well? *sighs*
No dude, I took Anna!!
Oh. Okay, well, yeah that's okay. Anna's cool and all, but Elsa is, well she's Elsa!
What!? I just woke up and I'm out of likes!?
*bro-fembro hug* Welcome to my world. I managed a couple this morning, ran into your post, and.... *BAM* Course, I did manage some when I woke up at 1am for some maintenance.

P.S. - LOVE FemShep Elsa!
What could possibly be perversive about Dr Pepper?
Golly, we're on the Internet. Please don't answer that one.
You missed the fan fic Scout Harding (*cough* alleged Scout Harding *tips hat to Al*) posted a few days back, didn't you? Her Willness had more fun than Delilah and I had that night, I tell you what!

So all this talk of Last Of Us made me think that I was pretty sure I had that game in Steam. Checked. Nope. Had it confused with Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. Yet more games that I've gotten during Steam sales and have never fired up.
Anyway, regarding Zombies: If they are low/no brain functioning humans shambling around in packs trying to kill and eat other normal humans, then they're zombies. That's just how it is, regardless of what Devs say. Sorry, poodle. I mean, if Peter Jackson gets to call his movies LoTR and The Hobbit, I think we need to widen the definition of zombie, don't you?
So Witcher 1, 2, and 3 successfully installed overnight. That's 52GB of my 250GB monthly allowance blown in one night. Probably need to watch my Netflix / Amazon prime video streaming this month...

Why U diss the Hobbit and LOTR? Jackson did a better job then Tolkein did with the work. Mind you I have not actually seen Battle of the Five Armies yet.

RoamingMachine, cat gif me!
I wasn't able to get a cat today as planned because bf wants us to have a bigger budget for the adoption fee so I need some serious cheering up, he decided this literally a minute before we got to the front door to head off. seeing as I got all excited and am now rather down.
NOT cool, bf of Ashaantha! Not friggin' cool. Anyway... Don't worry, btw, spoiler has kitties, not Tony Abbott.

Let me rephrase my comment. Peter Jackson made great movies. I just think they should have been called something like, "Peter Jackson's myths of Middle Earth that he made up on his own and set in Tolkien's world while stealing basic plotlines from Tolkien" rather than LoTR and The Hobbit. Or probably something shorter that conveyed that meaning.
Much like how I have to pretend JJ Abrams movies are not actual Trek movies to enjoy them, but rather just kick ass space fiction that has nothing to do with the real Star Trek.

Honestly? I prefer restrictions and the necessity to make decisions and/or sacrifices with character evolution.
For example, I love Dark Souls and TES games, but in both, I dislike how eventually not being a jack of all trades is nothing but a self-imposed limitation.
As bad as huge open world areas with nothing to do are, as bad is character evolution without boundaries, to the point where it becomes "character inflation".
I had to re-read that because first I thought you were just a bit late getting the word on Ben E. King, who died a couple of weeks ago. Now B.B. King as well? *sighs*

In The Last of Us, the "zombies" are perfectly aware of what is happening; they just can't do anything to stop themselves from going after people. You can even here them mumble about how they are in pain. They aren't zombies, and unless you have actually played it and are aware of what the idea behind it is, you aren't going to see anything but a zombie.

Aww, Dieb. I'm so sorry.
Thank you.
It's not like we were related or anything. Yes, it was "just" a celebrity I never met who died. But some people become constants in your life, whether they are aware of it or not. Like Jesus, or Lindsay Lohan's stalkers.
Imagine your favourite brand of orange juice helped you get through a divorce and suddenly they discontinued it. Mr King was more influential than orange juice (except when it comes to providing vitamin c), but maybe this illustrates a little what I mean.
P.S.: Then there's also that quote in my signature, which is something to live by.
