That's funny, I really only play the same guy -or girl in DAO's case- all the time. Which makes it ever so sad Morrigan is not a romance option in DAI, cause her personality got quite sexy. I mean it.
(A long one about DA games...)
You know what occured ot me about open world in future DA games and DAI? A lot of the qualms I have with it would be resolved if they went full-on open world travel. The whole thing came to me when I thought about how I mostly use the actual zone exit points to travel to somewhere else, just to fool myself into feeling more like I'm actually travelling there.
I think I can safely say by now that the particular thing I dislike is, that you are not truly travelling through the Dragon Age world, and it never feels like it. When you're in the Western Approach or the Hissing Wastes, there is a great sense of exploration and immersion (the dusty wind with a headset is amazing), but you have the feeling you're on a desert planet. It doesn't feel like the Empris du Lion or Crestwood are still there, because you cannot relate at all.
So if I can write one thing on my wishlist for a future DA game, no more half-assed open world. The areas are fine, really, no imminent need to drastically improve that. The whole problem is you do not feel like you're wandering about in a cohesive world, and I really want that the most. Whatever this "Thedas" is, it's still a mystery to me, you know? I wanna feel like i've literally walked the miles when I arrive somewhere. And I will gladly sacrifice a lot of environmental or climatic variety in favour of travelling from one hub town to another by foot. I'm in no way demanding quick travel to be removed, but I need to know I could.
Isn't that one of the greatest moments in RPG, when in your first playthrough you actually start seeing the next town ahead; pondering what merchants have in stock, and what the local plot is? I know this seems like an obscene demand, but for example weird games like Dragons Dogma pulled that off nicely, and again, I'm gladly willing to scarifice a lot of stuff for that. You can't tell me the Keep (which I could do without entirely) didn't chew up about a quarter of all the world design resources for all the fluff.
