Out of curiosity... how'd you go with Sera, when it came to approval?
Cause for me that was easy as pie... but Solas? Not so much.
Not a problem with Sera either, even as an elf. She and elf dude are like siblings. I was just short of getting the cookie scene by end game. If I had picked a different dialogue option after the Temple of Mythal, I'd've had enough approval for it. Lady Lavellan was able to get the cookie scene though.
Now I want pie. CABOT!
Funny because I think he's one of the easiest to get approval from. Ask him a question and he approves. I was very surprised on my first playthrough when he was the first companion to give me their companion quest. I thought it would be hard to get approval from the fade nerd, but he was giving it out like candy! Solas and my elf dude were tight like underwear.
Well, I had one respawn and I gave it to you. Back to being OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLL My Lady Lavellan was a little too understanding. She'd still slap him though.
Cabot, MORE MEAD.
My Lavellan is very understanding girl.
But it doesn't mean she will let him off the hook so easy.

EDIT: Regarding Solas, I find that unless I am playing a VERY pro magic / fade type character (not necessarily mage, just PRO magic stuff) it's pretty easy to make him a bit hostile if you don't coddle his beliefs.

Solas is easy to get "slight" approval points, because he likes uneducated people. However, he is very easily eternally failed by story decisions.
P.S.: I actually noticed most companions dislike it when I betray their ideals and do things they dislike.
