I haven't beaten the game yet, but I feel like I'm close to that point and would like to try again with a bit of extra challenge.  For my second playthrough I'm looking to try out some weird or new types of party/build ideas, such as a random skill selector, all one class party, solo play only, or possibly intentionally pick bad skills to make the game a bit more challenging.  Has anyone tried something like this, or have any weird party build ideas that are fun to play with?  My current game is on nightmare, as will likely my next if that changes any recommendations.

Using the Berserker effect on some weapons for the party may not count, but it was singularly the largest error made in my game thus far.

One fun thing to do is to put color restrictions on your hotbar. For example, force yourself to have active skills in 4 out of 5 trees, with 2 active skills per tree. Or restrict yourself to 2 trees, with 4 active skills from each tree.

Another interesting thing to try is building around a niche skill. So say you take Dorian's Simulacrum, and try to get as much mileage as possible from it. Gear your other mages for critical chance, Flashpoint and Revival, rush Dorian into battle and constantly get him killed, then use a Flashpointed Revival on him when Simulacrum expires so he can do it again.

I've seriously thought about next playing a warrior class with Cassandra, Blackwall and Iron Bull.
I mean really. Guess that equals stupid.

Tank Rift Mage..

Blizzard / take 50% less damage ice passive / weaken take 20% less damage / Mana based off damage

Veilstrike / Blizzard / Frost Step / Immolate (detonates frozen things).

I've always wanted to try this. But I'm holding out until Stonefist is fixed to proc damage on shatter. I think Blizzard would sustain its self with Restorative Veil.

I guess your eight skills would be;

Barrier / Veilstrike / Blizzard / Frost Step / Immolate / Ice wall (it counts as a frozen/chilled object, so you can always get your 50% dmg reduction) / Focus Ability / Pull of the Abyss or Stonefist.

I dunno how well 70% less damage taken translates into actual tankiness. Its the mad scientist build I want to try if Stonefist ever gets fixed to actually shatter things.

This is actually what I'm leaning towards at the moment, plus a couple restrictions like no crafting allowed and friendly fire on.  Otherwise I feel like it might be a bit too easy given how survivable you'll be.

I rolled a 2H warrior with templar spec and using the battlemaster tree by just RNGing everything. Probably one of the less effective builds but it's interesting, focused more on support/CC than outright damage or tanking.

It's not that bad! I beat the level 19 storm dragon with all 4 warriors. On Nightmare too.

Only Blackwall survived without dying, but my Inquisitor only died once. They were both Champions with almost no guard abilities.

You could be an archer, and avoid the Archery skill tree like the plague.

No barrier, no stealth, no guard. Completely ignore the Spirit, Subterfuge, and Vanguard trees. All rogues are dual-wield, all warriors are two-handed.

I think Blizzard would sustain its self with Restorative Veil.

Not going to work.  For some reason you can't increase your mana while it's on, all it does it drain it from the Blizzard spell.

They really messed this spell up.  For how much mana this thing uses (counting mana not regenerated too), it does very poor damage.  The chilled bonus doesn't slow them down enough to prevent them from actually leaving the Blizzard AND it does friendly fire damage.  Then to top it off, it almost never freezes anything. It's bad in several ways.

I really wanted to use it, but it's just too damn horrible..... which is really stupid because things at the bottom of tree should be really great in my opinion.
