Don't let a certain fanboy hear you make such an 'emotionally overreactive' statement.

Real mature there guy. BioWare intentionally mocking the community by releasing a statement saying "aw too bad you guys couldn't make it" actually would border on being insulting if that was their intent. Of which is vastly different than what you said with your prior comment "having an unattainable goal is insulting." That's you projecting some twisted sense of emotional validation on a rote gameplay mechanic. Implying that BioWare is deliberately trying to provoke or incite the community. Again another example of how/why context matters.

I shouldn't be surprised that your feelings are hurt at what I said if your feelings are already hurt at a flawed weekend challenge. But I am.

Fixed.

It's quite clear that some mistake was made in setting the goal. I'm hoping they make an announcement before/once it is over to address the issue. If they just say "aw too bad you guys couldn't make it" that would be insulting.

you do realize there  REASON that set it up that high, i.e it could mean new a dlc for mp is ready which could mean new enemies, new weapons. and classes, talents.. like they did the first time when we failed  when we did a event for me3pm and something happened

I didn't play ME3MP, so I don't know what that was like. I can understand setting a goal as an excuse to introduce new content, but if that's really what's going on here, the execution leaves something to be desired. Allow me to explain.

Lore-wise, the medals we are failing to gather are meant to "broker an alliance with the Nevarrans". How would failing to broker an alliance introduce new enemies? Maybe it can be explained away, but it seems shaky to me.

In terms of gameplay, the weekend events are probably meant to encourage players to participate and get more matches in by providing incentive (i.e. rewards) for doing so. On both fronts, this "doomed to fail" scenario would fall very flat. Players won't be rewarded, since the goal was not achieved. And, knowing that, I suspect a good chunk of players will stop playing once they reach their personal goals, if they deem reaching the community goal as a futile endeavor. Had the goals been perceived as achievable, many players (myself included) would put in a lot more effort and games to help reach it. I think the responses and excited tallying seen here on the boards during the last weekend event is evidence of this.

I'm pretty sure they were just testing the waters with this challenge, seeing if there's enough active players In the game to actually do more challenges like that in the future. Donno. It was a near impossible event though lol

In any case, that's my theory.

Figured a full quote wasn't necessary. Either way, you summed up my thoughts pretty well and did the math I was avoiding. When I saw the challenge and considered how much, er, 'progress' was made by Saturday morning, I didn't even feel like running numbers. Add to that the fact that I've seen a good few well-rounded games with no gold medals whatsoever, and it does start looking like someone at BioWare is making miscalculations.

I don't really care about the reward, though. What bothered me was seeing people rush ahead for kills (more than usual) so they could score a free* commendation chest. They were skipping treasure rooms and not opening class doors, therefore willing to sacrifice gold for the sake of a free box of mediocre loot. The logic simply wasn't there, and it was messing with my enjoyment of the game, which is kind of what I play it for.

Anyway, the numbers here are so unrealistic it's almost funny. I hope it was intentional, though I'd like to find out how it could be.

.

No alliance may mean that Nevarrans join red templars or venatori? Willingly or unwillingly? Not sure what they have though. Toy soldiers? Some buffs to knights or different kind of knights? Some other enemy? They have necromancer mages (mortalitasi).

If the server sided counting system is a s bugged as the player side than there's not a single reason to believe what Bioware is telling. If the medal system tells me i did like 36 staff kills with a Katari or i did like 48 kills while i joined the game just before the boss-battle, something in that medal system is very wrong.

Weekend challenge is a joke considering that most people stopped playing DAMP. Too buggy and boring. No rewards for mindless grinding.

Giving us unreasonable and impossible challenges doesnt motivate more people to play DAMP. You know?

They know how many people are getting medals per weekend...they could reasonably double that estimated amount with the added immortal medal. Maybe the count isn't actually the real count due to an issue, or they are doing this on purpose. I find it difficult to believe that they would not be able to foresee how many medals would be earned. My guess is that this is intended, or we are not seeing the real number due to a glitch...or whatever you want to call it.

"Here's a slightly better weapon to grind with." Or, more realistically, "here's the weapon you were using before the weapon you were using before the one you're using now, and a jar of bees. Enjoy."

Worth noting many of me'n mine didn't stop playing because of the bugs--though the mindless grinding without any purpose was starting to get to us.  I, like many of my friends, stopped because I was soured by the actions of the dev team.  Just felt that needed to be thrown out there since the bugs, grind, and lack of new content are consistently the listed reasons for why people like me have scaled down our play massively or stopped altogether.

My point exactly!

In my opinion they are throwing challenges on the run, they are not looking at players statistics any IT manager could do that.

Last week the challenge targets varied across different platforms, and seemed to scale quite directly with the corresponding player base.

Me: So you're saying that the entire player population has to play 24/7 this weekend to get 750,000 gold medals?

Bioware: If you expect us to fix the things we broke, then we need you to test all the bugs we created as much as possible.

Me: We won't be able to meet that ridiculous goal. But it doesn't really matter, because the commendation/victory chests are crap!

Bioware: Don't blame that on us.... We don't have the time to fix everything!

Me: Yeah... Well I don't have the time to get 750,000 gold medals in one weekend!

Yeah, this seems like a simple case of someone not doing the math on what they're asking.  4 medals per clear if you change your entire playstyle around the event and only do boring Routines, average of 2 medals per clear if you play normally.  This is about 3-4x harder to do than the chest one and yet the requirement is...

We don't even need to talk about the # of players to find the problem.

Didn't show off well enough or whatever the story reason for challenge was.

New characters for reinforcements or something.

I'd feel pretty bad if they're already rolling out legit 'consequences' for failing unreasonable challenges.

Last week was 250000 chests and we get way more chests than gold medals per game. Plus if you dont do a full extract usually you get 0 gold medals. Its saturday night and we're at 114000 that's not even 1/4 of what we need. The 250000 chests last week was obtained on friday.

You shouldve put it at 150000 or 200000 gold medals not 750000.

Please make future challenges reasonably obtainable.

i got it soloing

Well, because the ME3MP team offered a better service than the current DAMP team.

This is very true. It's also very true that people like to complete challenges. It is something that takes your mind off of an endless grind and gives you a chance to re-focus your efforts and try out some new play styles. I doubt people are mad that they won't get the chest, but are frustrated with the state of the game, which causes small issues like unattainable challenges to become an easy target for something to be angry/upset about.
