I appreciate all the companions to a certain extent, and all of them want to help your cause so that's already a big plus.

Solas and Cole are in their own category- vying for favorite character in all of Dragon Age, along with Flemeth, Morrigan and Loghain.

Surprise second slot- Cassandra. I didn't expect to like her as much as I did, since I usually dislike Chantry types. But she's so "real" and has personal vulnerability without it feeling cheap or contrived.

Somewhat conventional but still pleasant buddy types- Dorian and Varric.

Middle/mixed- Blackwall, Iron Bull. I liked Blackwall's romance, but he can come off really negatively in other instances. There's not a lot for a neutral or slightly antagonistic PC to appreciate about him. Iron Bull is funny, I love his and Dorian's interactions (not just the flirting, their sniping back and forth as well), but the BDSM "romance" does nothing for me, which is kind of a disappointment since I lusted over Sten back in the day.

Good as NPCs, don't do anything for me as companions- Sera and Vivienne. Interesting characters, but they don't contribute a lot to my playthroughs story-wise. That's a factor of the type of PC I play as much as the characters.

I really appreciate the diversity Bioware supplies to us, not just in this game but across all their games...even characters like Sebastian and Kaiden who are as interesting as watching paint dry.

Love:

Sera:  She was a series of slow-motion car crashes and I found myself wondering what she'd do next; she definitely kept me on my toes.

Dorian:  I just found him funny and thought his personal story quest among the best - with the gay part mostly irrelevant and it being more about noncomformity, walking his own path, emerging from his father's shadow to be his own man...and a father not wanting to relinquish control and the extent he was willing to go to get his son to conform.

Morrigan: I love that she has grown beyond her many preconceptions resulting from growing up isolated in the wilds and into a fiercely protective mother.

Leliana:  The mask is gone; and a decade plus of ruthless decision-making has forged her into a hardened individual (and damn sexy too!)

Like: Everyone else save Vivienne.

Despise (but still appreciate what she brings to the game)

Vivienne (IRL I get along with pretty much everyone, but she is the only personality type I simply cannot be around for more than a minute.  She exhibits every single trait I find distasteful.)

Ahh, I'd rather do it the way the title implies.

The Good: Cullen. (Blondie! :D)

The Bad: Corypheus

The Ugly: Roderick.

Love to bits: Cassandra and Cole (especially as more-a-spirit)

Like: Solas, Dorian, Varric

Also like, but not on the same level: Leliana, Cullen, Josephine

Neutral, leaning positive: Blackwall

Dislike: Iron Bull, Vivienne, Sera

Cass and Cole are seriously my new favourite Bioware characters. I can respect Vivienne as a character and think she's quite well-written (unlike the other two in her category), but she's just so out of place and so arrogant that I see no point or reason in making her an active companion and would rather slap her on Josie's roster of agents.

I really like them all. There's no one I 'hate'.

That said, I do have a soft spot for Sera and Dorian among the companions, as well as Josie and Leli among the advisors.

Sera goes on my ugly list. To look at every elven thing. Like anytime I do anything for elves she just hates it and does not have a good explanation. I get it the elves should live for tomorrow but I wouldn't be surprised if she was ok with letting all the elves die.

The bad list is Blackwall. Once you know he is a traitor you look at his fake Grey Warden lie as completely ridiculous.

I started off disliking Vivienne and Sera, but they gradually grew on me and I accept the characters for what they are (even if I never use them). Josephine just feels too 2D as a character for me to have a solid opinion on her.

Hated:

Vivienne

Viv was pretty much the only character I couldn't find anything likeable in and the moment I talked to her, I instantly didn't trust her. She was one of those characters where your gut instinct sets off warning bells so loud, they are deafening and right after she opens her mouth.

I like them all. No, seriously, I find them all interesting, even if some are more unique and intriguing than others.

I haven't gotten far, just as a disclaimer, but I agree; it feels like a very diverse and refreshening bunch this time around. My concern is almost moving from I hope they've created interesting companions to I hope they've not created too interesting characters. The reception of them seems kind of well-rounded, too.

But Josephine is my hero.

It's taken multiple playthroughs to get to know everyone but I've gone from hating a few of them to either liking or being neutral on them. I'm currently getting to know Blackwall better and while his GW fanboying irritates me, he's really not too bad to have around. I don't think I'll ever get along with Viv, but she has her moments of being entertaining.

BW has always been pretty good at making a diverse group of folks, even back in the Baldur's Gate days. If anything, it's gotten worse with Dorian's cliche storyline. Ah, perhaps I should restart Shadows of Amn.

I usually dislike people who are rude and have no filter on, I also have little love for arrogant and ambitious, power for power's sake characters, so no surprise there for my dislikes.

Leliana I've adored since the first game, she's a kickass character in every sense of the word. I really love Cullen's story and character development since the first game, and Cole is just a loveable being all around.

And I have a lot of liked characters and I don't want to go over them one by one, but I find all them interesting in their own way.
