Sera, while annoying as all get out, has a rather profound understanding of humanity and how social interaction works, far more depth than meets the eye. Get past her absolutist 'wealthy people are evil' attitude and she is one of the richer characters in my opinion.
Solas, I suspect another character somewhat annoying to many people, for his somewhat back handed and condescending commentary, also has a lot deeper development as a personality, as I suspect because he probably has a future role. I grew up in the company of a company of Solas's, so he doesn't bother me. At least he is curious about things other than his emotion state, the only character that does so.
Cass starts out (and spends much of her time) as one of the absolutist, right is right, this is how it is, believer in the cause, but at least softens a bit. Annoys me, but is vastly superior to Blackwall's brooding and whining like a strange drunk at closing hour talking about his high school prom date.
Iron Bull, the oft overlooked, solid, underrated character. He is a humble blue collar man, has a purpose, keeps things simple and no illusions of grandeur, is capable of feeling genuine sorrow without having to b*tch slap him or give him a hug to get him back into the fight. Built with a few right skills is also a great AI companion.
Cole... that emo suburbanite you wish would choke on their own dagger. Great at what he does, but stays on the bench because if you hear one more story about the pain, the sorrow, the helping.... as he wipes the carotid artery off a dagger, you will wish it was you. Unless of course you are an emo dancer from South Park... conformist! Character had a lot of potential but totally ruined by dialog. After tweaking him a bit, I gave up, not because he was bad, but because I hate the pain of his pain.
Vivian is an awesome game companion because if she wasn't the go to mage for non-mage characters, you'd shoot her. The absolutist, black and white, right and wrong, good and evil, without a doubt and religious connotation (obviously bioware folks are no big on tithing on Sundays) either frightens most normal people who live in the real world of grey or scares the ever loving hell out of them knowing she could end up the Divine.
Dorian, the gay mage with father issues, now there is a unique story, in 1964. Faces the issue with forced and yet random episodes of blunt sarcasm mixed with weepy sobbing borrowed lines from Cole. I think Dorian needs to spend more time with Blackwall polishing armor.
Blackwall, just leave him hang in Val Royeaux, unless you have no conversation with him and use him as a tank. This guy will cry through more tissue than Cass can build guard on hit with FT Silverite armor.
Not bring along types but just as cliche'
Leliana, we confirm what felt when we met her at Loithering and what the guardian in Andraste's temple eluded to, and we can now see, is a complete psychopath. Always seems it is the cute and adorable redheaded gals with that youthful coy voice than end up shoving a rusty fork in your eye if you offend them. I recommend heavy dosage of Quetiapine on a regular basis and keep the bows and daggers locked up lest you want another Columbine.
Cullen... sigh, gush, he is sooo dreamy and adorable and he is flawed, he is struggling with addiction and I can help fix him... puke. Just give the guy a tissue, set him in the corner with Blackwall, Cole, Dorian and give them free tickets to Dr. Phil to work it all out. I'd rather have Hannibal Lecter manage my army.
Josie... stereotypical female of old, fancy clothes, doing all the work for the lazy family, dreams of social recognition in the highest circles, and should marry Vivian in Vermont, not out of love but for duty to social trends and to crowd fund heeled shoes made the jawbones of Alienage Elves... they're all the rage this year, just like tribal Celtic tattoos that mean so so much!
The good is that it is a rich and wonderful story, the bad is that nearly every male figure in the game is effeminate and requires antivan pockets to hold their weepy tissues, and female characters have to come across as male like in order to be respected, instead of on the virtues of being women they are, and the ugly is that while the story has a lot of depth, most of the characters are as cliche and predictable as a Star Trek red shirt or worse, a modern sitcom.

How dare you dislike both Josie and cassandra. Why would you capitalize God if you don't believe in him? That seems silly.Love

I just simply don't like them, sorry if my opinions have offended you. As for my signature, oversight on my part, I guess.
