Does HIDDEN STEP work as advertised?

I just added Hidden Step to my Archer, advertised as:

HIDDEN STEP

ENEMIES WILL SWEAR YOU'RE STILL THERE, ATTACKING

EMPTY AIR AND HURTING NOBODY BUT THEMSELVES.

DURATION: 3 SECONDS

DAMAGE: 300% WEAPON DAMAGE

I've played 3 Routine solo games (added 9 gold medals to the January 30 - February 01 "Doomed to Fail" Week-end Challenge), but never could I get any damage to occur that I could observe.  I would even allow a single enemy left standing, then dive all around it utilizing Hidden Step with no damage appearing.

Is it busted, or am I missing/misinterpreting something?

Works for me.

Well there you go; it doesn't seem to work for me.  Just played another solo and I did a Hidden Step dance around the last standing Venatori soldier on three of the waves, without effect.

Thanks for the reply.

An enemy needs to physically touch the clone to take damage, regardless of attacking it or not.

Did you dive as they were attacking? They need to come into contact with your after-image for damage to occur.

Yeah, sometimes it's even buggy, and if they run into the shadow you leave they take damage, it DEFINETELY works if they attack it though.

there is a clone that lasts for like half a second and doesn't cause enemies to attack it. You have to have enemies run into it for it to do damage.

Just did another solo armed with the above info; it does work. Sorry for the density. I didn't even realize Hidden Step made a shadow phantom that lasts maybe 1.5 seconds that does the damage. Thanks all.

In evaluation, the enemies don't seem too convinced the Hidden Step phantom is you. It was rare for me to get an attack on the phantom with resulting damage; managed to kill one raptor. The description says "Duration: 3 seconds" but I don't think so.

My next build will drop it as it doesn't seem worth a point to procure.

Yeah, the upgrade is lackluster.  Evade is good on host, but fails too much off.  For now, its a good idea to avoid both.

When I do run Evade (which is no longer very often), I find the upgrade useful not for dealing damage, but for the extra second or so that the illusion buys me.

This.

Try using Knockout Powder. It is much better.

It does. Especially in a crowd. Never leave my Hunter home without it.

Not at dodging projectiles though :]

sometimes. the duration seems a lot shorter than 3 seconds though, feels more like as soon as I get up from the evade it's gone.

also is hit and miss with dropping aggro off of you (dunno if it's actually supposed to or is more for intercepting swings)

yeah crowds are the only time I see it working reliably but often I am hook & tackling in and out instead of evading there.

when I evade archers, I have a hard time dropping their aggro and I tend to get hit by one of the follow up shots in my subsequent evades while trying to reach cover. though here evade+stealth hunters seemed to work well as the evade makes them miss their first shot and immediate stealth after the evade seems to stop them "locked on" to me for the 2nd shot through stealth. or stealth to drop the aggro and evade to dodge the locked-on archers (though that is an obv waste of your stealth)

I can't tell, honstly.

I feel like when they do end up hitting me, it's mostly because I got tired of trying and subconsciously told myself "he's never gonna hit you NOW". If I pay attention to their movement and consciously mind 2 sec window and their wind up (which is actually longer), however, I end up unscathed in most cases.

If the enemies actually seemed to target the shadow, it'd be useful, but the only time they attack it is if they were already attacking when you evaded, which is pretty much the same as swinging into the air like they do with normal Evade.
