Which makes him all the more human to me. Perfect characters bore me.

I know. He is my Wardens best pal. And if you can believe comics, he has grown more competent.
That is why his statement would sting my Cousland.

I wonder though. Judging from this topic, and Youtube, everyone who says they got the 'walks a dark path' comment, did the dark ritual and traveled through the eluvian with Morrigan. But I wonder which part actually constitutes the 'dark' path? What if the warden made Alistair do the ritual? What if the warden did the ritual but doesn't go with Morrigan? Does Alistair still say HoF walks a dark path? Everytime I see this, it is the same world state with warden + dark ritual + go through eluvian. I'd like to see some variables changed. I'd do it myself, but i don't want to.

TBH whenever I had a world state that had Alistair as a Warden and unromanced, what he says "I'll be answering that question the rest of my life. Yes, I was there. It was big. The Hero of Ferelden was brave. What have you done for us lately, Alistair? New time. New problem." I never saw it as him downplaying the HoF's role. I just think after 10yrs he has grown tired of the same question over and over again. Think about it: you would be tired of people asking you about someone and an event over an 10yr span too. Don't even deny it.

Alistair says that same line to a romanced HoF.

@OP:
Dark does not equal evil, and even where it does, "walking a dark path" has been known to mean "being surrounded by bad stuff".

Also, it may not be quite as bad as Morrigan claims, but Alistair can be an idiot. And lastly, if he knows what the Warden did when enacting the DR, I can see him interpreting that as "starting down a dark path". It's not the story talking, it's just one NPC's opinion.

Also, Alistair may have done the ritual, but it's at the Warden's behest, if I recall correctly.

Alistair being butthurt about being exiled. I wonder, has anybody gotten drunk Alistair as a Warden seeing as how one of his codexes says he rejoined the Wardens after sobering up. Has anybody done a world where Loghain dies killing the Archdemon and Alistair was exiled?

It really annoyed me. Ultimately it's moot since I've retconned my personal canon and made him king because I refuse to lose either him or Hawke, but it was still frustrating to hear him say that. My warden was closer with Alistair than he was with anyone else, he didn't force him to be king because Alistair said he didn't want to, and then did the DR so that both of them could make it through the Blight. He always tried to have Alistair's best interests at heart. And how does he repay me? By apparently abandoning our friendship and talking crap about me to a stranger. What the hell?

Although, I agree it felt less like Alistair talking and more like the writers wanting to punish you for picking a world state that they didn't want to exist.

It's absolutely in character. Alistair has these blow ups all the time. Just watch what happens with Isolde.

And here I thought we were friends.

At any rate, everything with a warden Alistair and an unromanced HoF is pretty stupid, especially if you were friends. Either you fucked his girlfriend at some point or it's OOC. It doesn't make any sense to me that he would be so bitter and distrustful of the warden. In one instance he's buttmad he's still alive and thinks you're probably working for the bad wardens, and in the other he's butt mad that you giving your life to save him doesn't get him enough attention.

10/10 friendship there. Truly, I'm glad I gave you one of the best shields in the game because of your weird attachment to Duncan, just so you could pull this **** ten years later, and then not even use the ****** thing.

Maybe Alistair lost the shield and blames the Warden for not finding it for him.
