At the moment one of the biggest turn offs for me in the game is tons and tons of useless dialogue that does not impact the game play and game plot even in the slightest.

I am a completionist, so I like to complete everything that's available in the game and that includes completing NPC dialogues as well and I am bored to death with the dialogue in this game, because apart from a few dialogue choices rest does not impact the game in any way.

I bought the game on release but I still haven't finished it because of entirely boring and needlessly long dialogue. Everytime I engage in a dialogue with one of my companions I end up quitting the game because the experience is just so **boring**.

You can talk to a companion for half an hour and still won't learn anything new. Same thing that can be said in a single sentence, is said in over 4 to 5 sentences in this game,

Quality is greater than quantity, Bioware. There is no reason of to have tons and tons of needless dialogue that does not effect the game even in the slightest.

I just hope Bioware avoid this approach in upcoming DLCs and future games.

I don't know

I don't have problems with dialogue

the only ones that I didn't like was Vivienne's (she annoys me) and Sera's, more because I don't understand 90% of the crap she says

Can you give an example of what you mean by "new"? You learn a lot about them. The IB gives you a new perspective on Qunari society. Dorian is basically a personable codex entry on Tevinter. Cassandra tells you a lot about herself and offers a new perspective on the Chantry. Sera talks a lot about what it's like to be a commoner.

So I just don't get your complaint.

Looks like it's your preference that's making your dislike the dialogue, not a problem on the game's behalf though. Most who know what they're getting into with the Dragon Age and all Bioware games enjoy talking to the companions a lot and learning about their backstory and other various stuff that's not necessarily crucial to the main plot. And a lot of companions are like little walking codexes into specific topics. Solas with the Dalish and Fade, Iron Bull with the qunari, Dorian with Tevinter...

Quality over quantity, I think is really all it boils down to in the end.

I enjoy talking to characters also, but when they're just kind of making airy commentary on this or that political dispute, or just a lot of jokes, it can get dry and boring.

I don't think "new" in a literal sense, like, more information on the Qun, just new in an emotional sense. Like, Blackwall is a soldier, ok, what else is happening with him? Are all the dialogue options essentially revolving around soldierly things? It's that kind of situation. If he has 10 dialogue options and they all say "I did it for the Wardens" but you change that into 10 different ways of saying it, it doesn't really work.

In contrast, if you have one who has 2 options, but one leads to how they hate the PC or something, and the other is about their intense interest in their pet cat it's going to feel more dynamic....

PC: So, I hear you like kittens.

NPC: Maybe. What of it?

PC: I dunno. Just love kittens is all. Figured maybe we could discuss it.

NPC: If you say so.

[20 hrs of gameplay later]

PC: You son of a b*tch! You burned down the kitten orphanage!

NPC (now villain): I knew kittens were your weakness. I recall our conversation, and you revealed far too much.

PC: Oh my pagan idols! I can't believe my overshare would be my undoing!

NPC (now villain): [cackling] I know, right?

if there's too much dialogue you will fall for BioWare's insidious plot to spread homosexuality

The Agenda, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little...push!

Really? I found there wasn't nearly enough dialogue to satisfy me. Outside the inquisition there's no one to talk to beyond "yes sir, I will bring you a goat hide" and "here is your goat hide."

Pretty cool IMO, except honestly someone burning down a kitten orphanage is too horrible to contemplate, I think that would bump the rating far past Adults only into ban territory.

Actually, I'd love to have more things to talk about with my companions. I run out of dialogue so fast!

There is also a lot of useless dialogue in real life...politicions come to mind.

But that aside . I really like all the dialogue in Inquisition. And when your companions comment on certain things (items) you pick up like letters.

i swear, maybe that's just me but those chantry types like to use a lot of empty words :3

you can learn plenty about that lot just by listening to them. and i think it's a good thing, tbh

Hey, Leliana, 'sup?

Divine Justinia, the most holy is dead. Maker turned his gaze blah blah blah (give or take 5 minute monologue about... nothing really)

Right

Soooo... Leli, you were left hand of the divine? (few seconds to hear what PC is asking about, cue nooooooooooo!)

Divine Justinia blah blah blah

Right, i know who not to talk to anymore

Hey, Cass!

We are the seekers and we do the Maker's will blah blah blah (another long, meaningless monologue filled with empty phrases)

Right. So, what is Maker's will exactly?

I don't know, that's the thing we seek, ya know?

Right

The dialogue is fine, it's just that the inquistor seems like the most boring person to meet with despite the options you pick. its all very... formal.

Wow, im shocked at a Greywinter thread with a OP that doesn't include the words "gay agenda" or "homosexual conspiracy", it might not get locked or deleted straight away for once

You gotta be kidding. This was the exchange between my Inquisitor and fake Justinia:

A: The demon Erimond was trying to bring through?
B: Yes.
A: It's nearby?
B: Yes.
A: Well... ****.

The Inquisitor's personality is what you want it to be. Maybe people are too used to playing a 100% pre-established character.

This is my favorite response to that exchange :) I always just imagine it's Varric's influence rubbing off on her ;)
