First of all, the PC controls are so bad I can't even do it. Been waiting for a fix or a Mod... for almost three months now.  I'm ready to give up.

That being said, I already have a PS4, is anyone else using a PS4 controller to play this game? How is it?

Nope. I tried controller on PC to see what all the fuss was about and it was too inferior, so I went back to KB/M.

They both have their drawbacks. It's not a case of 'bad console port' or any of that hootenanny. I love it for the CC and it's nice if you don't want to be constantly hunched over the KB/M and the camera maneuverability is nice. But you don't get a quicksave button, the ping is harder to do than just pressing V, you can't pause so you have to switch to tactical mode every time, I miss the option to just click a number on dialogue options and personally I find the cycling to get to a different skill annoying but YMMV. I think the tac cam was the main reason to get a controller and they did... something to it so it's a lot easier to use with the KB/M setup now.

The more you play, the easier the controls become. You just have to get used to them. LIke using the clutch on a car the first time may not bode well for you. But after 500+ goes you can work it properly. :)

Honestly, I'm kind of used to them but it just doesn't feel right to me.

Yeah...controller or not, that tactical cam is disaster. Unfortunately for me it didn't even help in real time combat.
I am actually admiring now to people that play with controller.

I find the controller worse at basically everything. The UI is absolutely "optimized" for a controller in the sense that Bioware did the absolute best they could to get what effectively are core PC-RPG features to work on console, but they can't overcome the fact that controllers are just plain inferior to KBM.

the problem with the keyboard and mouse controls is that you have to continuously hold a button down for auto attack.. with a controller this is fine.. with keyboard and mouse it felt awkward at best.. then you combine that with the terrible tactical cam which was clearly made for a controller and well.. it made me go to a controller lol..

that being said, once i started using the controller, the game started to play alright and i was able to get through it.

but, from my perspective, the KB/M controls are far superior in DA:O/DA 2.

I got back to KB/m and I dont know if they fixed anything in it, but it feels a lot better now. Walk toggle button helped a lot too because now I dont feel like an idiot running all over the place

And of course hot keys
I just love my keyboard hotkeys to see the map, journal etc
Using controller for that was such a drag

Pro's and con's to both yo. The biggest deciding factor for me was I HATE having to bring up a menu to get to another menu. Example, to use a potion, go to the journal, open inventory etc you have to bring up the radial menu FIRST. With KBM you can press M for map, I for inventory, J for journal, etc. Which is efficient and time saving.

Honestly it's 50/50. Try both and see which one you prefer.

Also, the controller really tired out my hands. Holding R2 for secondary spells, and the other button for the wheel. Ehhh.

Since you have a PS4, you are probably pretty handy with a controller.  I would recommend trying it.  It made the game enjoyable for me.

However, with the PS4 you will have to use an emulator to emulate xBox360, so none of the tool tips will correspond directly to your device.

Just so everyone knows, you don't have to bring up the pause menu to look at the map with a controller, you can just press left on the D-pad. This saved me a lot of time!

Not on PC. From what I know consoles have both quickmap&quicksave on left&right d-pad buttons. I'm playing with a wired xbox360 pad, it works well but no quicksave\quickmap for me. Probably that's a bug, but it has been confirmed by many PC-gamepad players.

I can't say  I'm a huge game-pad fan, but it does work well with some games, and DAI is one of them. Combat and exploring\looting are much less awkward with the pad.  Menus (crafting\charlist\inventory) are not too friendly on both.

What's  annoying with a controller is that in order for you to pause the game you have to go tac cam

The pause mechanic alone is enough for me never to try a controller.

I use a Xbox 1 controller. Works fine for me. But I grew up playing with consoles and a controller, so it's always felt more natural to me as opposed to a KB/M setup.

Just do whatever is most comfortable for you, and don't get caught up in the idiotic 'my setup is superior to yours' debate. This is primarily a single player game, not a competition

I use an Xbox 360 controller. I prefer mouse and keyboard but the game just wasn't built for M&K. It feels monumentally better to play with a controller. I usually play games on my desktop monitor but for this game I literally haul my computer over to the TV, hook it up, and play it like I'm playing on a console. Works for me.

Fourth PT and I'm just NOW finding out about this?!

I had trouble with the Motionjoy emulator for my PS3 controller, so I bought a Microsoft controller for $25 and it makes playing this game a lot more enjoyable for me.
