Yes, sure, I guess I'll just go marry Bioware (fond of hyperboles aren't you)? You know what I dislike? The people who go on and on about how if you like the newer games you're not a "true (or hardcore) fan", and how everything changed when the fire nation attacked with game *insert title here* and nothing will ever be the same. Here's the thing though, Bioware doesn't HAVE to keep making the same type of game over and over. They are free to try out new things, go in other directions and try to create the worlds and settings they want to. As hardware keep getting better they are able to do things they may have wanted to do since the very beginning, but haven't been able to because of limitation.
The only prerequisite for a bioware games is that, guess what, it's made by bioware! The fact that some fans may not like the direction they're going in sucks for them, but that doesn't make the game any less made by bioware. Consumers, on the their side, are free to dislike the new directions they're taking and stop buying the games. People are also free to feel that it's an improvement. Some, and this may come as a shock, actually may enjoy both the old AND the new games at the same time, and are looking forward to seeing where they'll go from here. I do not need to justify Inquisition by comparing it to the older games, DAO is different from DA2 is different from DAI (and let's not even talk about KotoR, JE, BG or NWN). I do not need to "twist" anything to make them look like each other, because I am not "married" to the idea that all games need to be identical for me to enjoy them. I don't see why "this game plays just like this other game" HAS to be a selling point, and if it doesn't everything is ruined.
And yes, to me a well written plot and characters are an important part of a game! This doesn't mean a game without much of a story isn't a game, it just means it's a game that I'm less interested in playing. It may not be an important part of a game to you, but last time I checked your opinion wasn't more important than mine, or anyone else's.
Know how this post of your would make sense? If Bioware said something like this:
"No this game is nothing like Origins, we are taking a new direction, of course our writting is there, eerything we are known for, but combat have different features and in fact play VERY different from both DAO and DA2. Even so, we hope you like what we are doing since for us it is an improvement to the franchise. But it is, unquestionably a big change. We are looking into a combat pace between DAO and DA2 but more action oriented. Also we got rid of most tactics and level up involves only assigning one skill point, but fear not, you can still customize your character with gear, this is a gear oriented game after all"
See... this way I would never have even watched a video from DAI, with this statement game would have died for me, the franchise and Bioware. For me Origins was the minimun acceptable for a RPG. Origins is already very simplified and with very few option, Inquisition is an abortion rotting with dealy radiation. So if they said they were going worse than Origins, even if they said it like it was a good thing I would have just erased them from my life.
The whole problem is that they promised a game for people who like Origins. And contrary to your argument (lol) that there are people who like both, no there is not. I mean, like, yes. But we aren't discussing likes here..Saying there are people who like Origins and Inquisition means absolutely nothing. There are people who like Mario Kart, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and Inquisition and Origins. So does that mean anything other than the person likes a lot of types of games? NOPE.
And that's the point here, liking Origins and Inquisition says nothing about the game being made for old fans.
Only ONE thing says if it was made for old fans: Is it like the old games? NOPE. A lot of features were removed so it is not for old fans.
If the old fans like it or not make absolutely no difference. It says nothing. A lot of people like different games, and that what Origins and Inquisition are, completely different games.
So what about stop saying there are people who love both as if it meant something?
Now know what means a lot? Origins had stat point to distribute on level up, Inquisiton does not.
Origins didn't have huge maps and jumping, Inquisition does.
Origins had (different) origin stories to play, and various origins from each race to choose, Inquisition does not.
And that's how it goes.
Even the pope may like it, even if the creator of Planescape Torment said Inquisition is the best game ever, it wouldn't say a thing. It is absolutely nothing about liking or disliking and if you loved BG, NWN or DAO. It is about having the same features or not. And the features are very different, so it was not made for people who loved the first game, if it was it would have the same features. You don't please fans of soccer with hockey discs, of course a lot of these fans may like both hockey and soccer but it absolutely does not mean you gave them hockey discs to please their love for soccer, you did so for them to play hockey. Good for them if they like, bad for them if they don't.
