Hey all,

As I said last week, i'll be your point of contact for everything "weekend challenge," so I think a lot of you saw this post coming.

TL:DR, we made the Community Challenge number too high. Sorry.

Long Version: When creating these challenges we use telemetry, player numbers, math, and a little designer "gut feel" to create the goals.  It seems we misinterpreted something along the way this time.  We want these to be truly challenging, yet if you put your mind to it you can get it.  This was not meant to be a "fail the community" challenge, and we had no ulterior motives behind it.

I think if we set the numbers at 200,000 for PS4/X1/PC and 50,000 for PS3/X360, it would have been challenging, but possible for all platforms to hit it.

Going forward as we do more challenges, our telemetry numbers will get better, and we will have a better understanding of what is in the realm of possibility for achieving.

We are also looking into increasing the rewards in the Victory Chest and focusing on challenges that promote more teamwork.

Thanks for trying to hit our lofty goals this week, we'll do better making them a bit easier this weekend.

Blair

Please, please, please make the next challenge team related, not solo rambo nonsense.

That's really my main complaint/suggestion...

Thanks Fiddzz. It take guts to admit you were wrong, especially on the Internet.

Would love to see some of that telemetry data get shared! Even after the fact, it's still interesting.

Even so, I liked the ambition of this weekend challenge. I have high hopes for future ones, especially as you roll out future DLC!

Has the community Golden event been deleted from the PS4 challenge list?

Just it seems to no longer appear, and shows 65/65 completed for me, whereas on the weekend it was 65/70 (before we got a star).

You can't use telemetry on games or matches started at this point in time or lobbies entered, at least 1/3 of the time I lose connection or have some kind of crash or bug that ends the match prematurely fit even gets started.  (I am not complaining about this for this post, just stating a fact on my experience.)

All weekend events you don't complete get deleted after the weekend. Including individual ones, since you can't complete them anymore.

At least, that's what happened when I missed the weekend axe challenge.

I tweeted it @DragonAge on Friday when I started and realized how hard it was to actually pull down gold medals.  The previous week's chest collection it was possible to pull down 5 - 10 chests an operation, times the number of players, and we beat the goal of 250,000 in the first day.  But with gold medals, assuming one person totally dominates the enemies alone, and every one else just survives, you could get 7 or maybe 8 if you work together.

Conversely, a solo player over leveled for routine could pull down 3 -4 in an operation.  As the difficulty increased getting golds became exponentially harder.  Everyone I talked to was just pulling down solo runs and watching the community goal slowly slip away from them.

That said, I love the weekend events.  It keeps the multiplayer fresh and keeps me playing despite the desperate need for setting and enemy variety and the bugs that still crop up (thanks for fixing the jar bug and key drop bug, BTW, they were making me crazy!)

Going forward maybe some goals around standing up downed comrades?  Completed operations with one of each class type (rogue, warrior, mage)?  Creating team combos?  Playing more than one operation with the same group? (Not sure if you can track that metric).  Stuff that would foster increased team play, rather than solo...

You might also have a weekend with completed operations by each class, tracked individually.  Let people play their favorite class until that one is all complete, then try another that maybe isn't being played as often.

Just some ideas.  Mass Effect 3 is still my favorite MP of all time, and I'd love to see DAI grow to rival it with a little DLC to expand the areas and enemies (add mercenaries or something?), some bug patches, and more great weekend events to keep the community engaged.

This was what I expected, and your response has been what I hoped for. Much appreciated. As a whole, the player base understands that mistakes might happen. I, for one, am willing to be patient as long as there is consistent communication and indication of progress. I suspect most people share similar sentiments.

With regards to the last weekend event blunder, will there be a reward or token of compensation to the community? I know several who (largely) selflessly went through lower difficulties playing support to help lowbies achieve gold medals. It seems the least Bioware can do, and is probably a near-trivial change on the server end.

Keep it up, we're staying optimistic!

How about a free chest for the blunder? Not like it matters, pure rng and all that.

What I really want to see in this multiplayer though is something that rewards you for playing for a long time, because after putting 480 hours into multipalyer and grinding/spending over 1,200,000 gold and still not having a few items that I'd like to have while getting duplicates of things I already have, I am wondering what the point is. This loot system is TERRIBLE.

Please look at alternatives for creating better rewards for people who have a very high rank in the system or base it on gold-spent or whatever just do something because this is ridiculous. (crafting actual weapons / accessories please?)

Why not just a certain amount of promotes, that way people can play any character they want.

Bravo, man. Getting on here, with a comment-able post, and owning up to the impossibility of the task...well, just bravo.

FYI, I still ain't even mad. The individual goal was imminently doable so I appreciate that. At least there was a reward for the weekend challenge.

Think this was your biggest mistake. Its not that players could reach these goals, it's just that with these lame ass rewards that amount to a little more then a large chest which can be bought after a threatening run. No body's going to work there asses off for the lackluster rewards.

If you wanna throw in incredibly hard challenges, then make sure it is equally rewarding.

We want these to be truly challenging, yet if you put your mind to it you can get it.

Since most people seem to be commenting on the obvious bit about the event being a tad out of our league, I would like to add in to this particular quote:

Challenges feeling like they are challenging, forcing the community to band together to show our mettle, is a very great mentality to have. Keep up with that, because while most of us enjoy free loot, we also like the challenge behind it. :P

I love to hear that the team is looking into making the rewards better.  The N7 weapons for ME challenges were a great encouragement to do the challenges each week and a nice reward.  One of my favorite weapons in the entirety of MP came from those packs.

Despite mistaking the challenge numbers, this post was all good news. I'm glad to see they are working hard to improve everything about these challenges while listening to the players.

Thanks Bioware.

Okay, cool to hear.  Cant wait until you guys/gals can keep hitting that sweet spot of challenging, but (most of the time) possible to accomplish.  Thanks, and good luck!

Thanks for the update Blair!

You can't get 'em right all the time.

Thanks too for putting out an update post.

It's much appreciated and I'm really glad I see you. I know the weekend challenges are gonna keep getting better and more dialed in every week!

How about giving us free Victory Chests so we can salvage all the Reinforced Daggers and Spiked Bows found in it? :D :P
