Thanks for the post, it is really appreciated. And it is good to hear about more coop-focused challenges and better rewards.

Well done!  I concur with everyone else in this topic. Admitting fault goes a long way in creating a healthy community and hopefully this will be a little bit of a stepping stone to improve on.  The gold medal challenge was unattainable but I'm sure the Superbowl had something to do with not as many people playing.  My guys still can't stop talking about Katy Perry at the half time show!

If you want a teamwork based challenge only two come to mind... ability combos and the medals where no one dies (ive never done that, but then again I don't take lvl 20s through routine either.)

p.s. looks liked I picked a good weekend to move.

Long Version: When creating these challenges we use telemetry, player numbers, math, and a little designer "gut feel" to create the goals.  It seems we misinterpreted something along the way this time.  We want these to be truly challenging, yet if you put your mind to it you can get it.  This was not meant to be a "fail the community" challenge, and we had no ulterior motives behind it.

What's wrong with an ulterior motive challenge? I'd welcome it if challenges were just difficult enough to achieve or fail and their were a reward/penalty based on the outcome. For example:

Demon hunter challenge - Kill 10,000 demon commanders.

Reward: 10% damage bonus against DC for the rest of the week.

Penalty: Entire faction gets immunity to stun for the rest of the week.

I see no problem with challenges designed to fail as well if were to say introduce a new enemy faction. Not all challenges need to give direct material reward and not all of them need to be "pass-able"/no negative outcome on failure. Gamers have gotten soft and forget there's a reward for completion as well as penalty for failure.

Biovar pls - l2Math, getting the 250k treasure chests was a stretch. How could you possibly think increasing the challenge by that much was achievable? I hope next time you focus on a challenge that focuses on team-work and hopefully you can do something with the community chest because at the moment I see no difference between a large chest and a Victory chest...Maybe guarantee a unique item for finishing a community based challenge?

Thank you very much for the post! Like many others have said, we appreciate you guys owning up to the miscalculation. Hopefully the results this week will provide better balanced goals for weekend events in the future! :D

Out of curiosity though, can we get the final tally for the Golden challenge for each platform? It's no longer in the Prestige list, but it'd be interesting to know how far we all got despite failing the challenge.

The official thread is here:  http://forum.bioware...ge-info-thread/

Here is where we will be showing whats coming up for the weekend challenge, and how the community did previously!

Not updated yet, but probably "soon"TM...

I can think of a coop challenge:  finish "x" maps with teams from 2 to 4 people

Also, specific challenges based on routine, threatening and perilous difficulties would be nice to do.

The only Gold Medal challenges I'd like to see in the future are Immortal and to a lesser extent Team Combos.  The others just encourage soloing or rushing ahead of the rest of the team (though some classes will still benefit from rushing for Team Combos like Templar).

People need to be punished more. Gamers have it to easy these days. Yes, I'm a sadist.

Nothing wrong with it, and it may come at some point.  It was just not the goal of that challenge.

I have to say, when I first looked at this challenge, my initial impression was only a small amount of the player pool was ever going to be able to rack up 20 Gold medals over a couple days.

Many people I meet in pug matches (even with good equipment) don't have the skill to get Gold medals. They can't play Perilous, they aren't able to solo any difficulty and in a team match they have no chance of getting Gold medals.

While this might seem odd that experienced players can't solo routine, most players comprising the playerbase of any game are going to be casual gamers who don't play several hours per day.

I thought this challenge was far-fetched from the beginning.

Now I like the fact the challenges require some effort or time to complete, but this one was always going to be tough for lots of people.

Exactly. I got 17 of my 20 gold medals from the Immortal medals. I'd call it a grind but I was having a pretty good time trying to play Threatening and Perilous while not getting ganked.

Hey all,

As I said last week, i'll be your point of contact for everything "weekend challenge," so I think a lot of you saw this post coming.

TL:DR, we made the Community Challenge number too high. Sorry.

I think if we set the numbers at 200,000 for PS4/X1/PC and 50,000 for PS3/X360, it would have been challenging, but possible for all platforms to hit it.

Going forward as we do more challenges, our telemetry numbers will get better, and we will have a better understanding of what is in the realm of possibility for achieving.

We are also looking into increasing the rewards in the Victory Chest and focusing on challenges that promote more teamwork.

Thanks for trying to hit our lofty goals this week, we'll do better making them a bit easier this weekend.

Blair

Now seeing as how we were not physically able to meet the requirements for last weekends challenge because they were to high, how about giving us 3 challenges for this week to make up for it? :)
