Stats wrapping around

Most players will be aware that in this game certain stats wrap around from 25 back to zero.

This can be an advantage, such as charisma wrappin round from 1 to 0 and then 25 if the rod of terror is used in conjunction with items that add to charisma.

On the other hand, it can be a disadvantage if a thief has good stats and uses performance enhancing drugs.

I have in my current game exceedingly high stats for my paladin and also some exceedingly good items and armour. My character has had some very close calls recently, and it makes me wonder if high stats and good armour in combination actually have the effect of having poor armour.

Does anyone know if this happens?

I think armour class is subject to a hard cap (-20 + dexterity modifier + single weapon style modifier), so doesn't wrap round by further boosts in the way that thief skills can.  You can still get lower effective AC by wearing things with AC adjustments (like girdle of piercing for instance).

This is what I have.

It is just that she seems to die very easily and quickly. Goes from full health to nothing in no time at all.

I agree if you're being hit by ordinary enemies with non-criticals that seems suspicious - though you might expect that modded enemies have the power to overcome the equipment provided.

I'm not sure if it's possible for a mod to remove the AC cap - I think it may be coded into the game engine.  Your picture seems consistent with having a cap (AC is -20 with further -6 from dexterity), but you could check that by trying to improve AC further and see if that has any effect.

It doesn't. That seems to be the cap.

Most oponnents (at least in "normal" game where they're subject to same THAC0 rules as you are) should miss you a lot. Even Mellisan should miss 40% of time against this AC; not counting the specific modifiers vs different damage types.

Ofc, different mods may assign arbitrary THAC0 to enemies, hence they could be able to hit you more than they should.

Best THAC0 enemies should have should be somewhere 0 for 20th level fighter, minus a few for weapon proficiencies (let's say -3), -3 from weapon enchantment, minus a few for strenght (say -5 tops) - equals -11 or so - but there are very few such oponnents, and even they shouldn't hit you more than 25% of time. Dragons could have better scores, but nothing too much to kill you quickly.

You can enable full feedback options in menu to see just how much an oponnent must roll to hit you, that might help you to see if they have obscene THAC0 scores. This kind of AC can regulary (90%+ times) be hit only by very high leveled  kensai and archers.

Thanks. That is most helpful.

If and when I get back to Amn I will check out those enemies, though I have now worked out tactics using mages that stop them getting in even one blow.
