I miss that too. The closest I get to the feel of the Deep Roads/Orzammar is when I go to Valammar.
Where are The Bloody Dungeons?

The Wardens are hearing the Calling but there is no mass exodus to the Deep Roads. That would be a reason to go. The wardens are gathering in the Western Approach because that is where the venatori mage wishes to start building the demon army. . So there is no reason to do to the Deep Roads. Corypheus is not in the Deep Roads so no reason to go there.
Like it would be hard for BW to come up with a believable reason to go to the Deep Roads if they wanted to ![]()

Every bit of Thedas' undeground is riddled with neverending Darven thaig, connecting roads, and forgotten cities... What more reasondo you need? Hell, this reason was enogh for 1/3 of DA2! That was just one! Then obviously we did the Branka run, and Dwarven noble rigin. Theres so many reasons to go deep roads. Maybe WEgo search for an Arch Demon to avoid blight 6?

Or help the Warden find his cure. Maybe meet the Architect in the process. So many possibilities, I hope we'll see something of Deep Roads in a DLC at least. A lost dwarven thaig is my wish, with puzzles and actually tough and challenging fights, so basically something like Golems of Amgarrak.

I actually like the Deep Roads, and the Fade isn't nearly the pain people act it is. It's linear, and you only need to keep backtracking if you really want all of the secrets.

I'm not sure "essential" means what you think it means.

Oh....OK, let's see...
1 - absolutely necessary; indispensable
2 - pertaining to or constituting the essence of a thing
3 - being such by its very nature or in the highest sense; natural; spontaneous
Yeah, I think I've got the gist of it.

Ummmm....all the wardens are hearing the Calling...plenty of opportunity for the Deep Roads, if you ask me!
Nah, I think the entire plot for DAI was very poorly written. so many wasted opportunities...
That's a good point, and I agree the plot was poorly written.

In summary: Corypheus is so powerful, the Inquisitor had to destroy Haven by creating a devastating snow slide just to slow him down and in the process, kill innocent people.
Oh wait, actually the Inquisitor can kill Corypheus with only 3 companions at his side.
Ummmm.....What

By the final battle, one has stopped Cory in several varied ways; see Solas occasionally for an update. And there is no massive force with Cory; only the Dragon as another ally.
OK fair enough

When I first started playing this game I kept wondering where all the dungeons were. I would love a good dungeon crawl, but it seems a poor fit for this game. It seems like Bioware created a lot of unique weapons and armor for this game, but just gave up when it came time to making unique rings and necklaces. All of the rings/necklaces in this game are so bland and boring "+30% to this skill".
For me, an exciting dungeon crawl contains:
- the dungeon has a theme (undead, orcs, etc). DAI has a limited amount of enemies so more would have to be created else each dungeon would be boring with only red templars, humans, etc.
- dungeon is optional, you dont have to go there to advance the story
- everything respawns eventually - replay-ability
- unique mini-boss and boss encounters that really test your party
- a large and unique loot pool for each mini-boss and boss, with the "better" items set as more rare
- dungeons shouldn't scale to your level, thus there needs to be lots of them for different level ranges.
- an overall quest to defeat the final boss with static rewards

The army would massacre Haven. You were in a pretty serious retreat. It's like saying gathering allies in DAO is pointless because the HOF could solo all darkspawn in existence at the same time.

wasn't the army attacking Haven just the faction you didn't pick (mages or Templars)? Where is the faction you did pick? The game also doesn't give you the impression that you're building an army the only people we supposedly recruit after that is Orlais, but their support consists of like 5 guys in the Arbor Wilds. When you get to Skyhold right after Haven, you already have a fighting force (one that Cullen regularly dispatches in war table missions) where were those guys? The army would massacre Haven. I saw many troops in the Ancient Elven ruins, had a full compliment in the Hinterlands ,as well as areas with varied camps and ballista. Then there are those scattered across the War Map to perform vital tasks like defense and gathering gold and components.

You only get part of the faction unlike Corypheus. If you don't go to Therinfall he gets all the templars. If you do go you are able to save some portion of them, but not all. Same with the Venatori - you just get the Redcliffe mages. Corypheus still has his forces in the West.
What you have at Haven is what is left of the Conclave. At Skyhold you're told you're getting pilgrims. The implication is that your ranks swell as news of your legend grows.

It takes a lot to change a pilgrim to a soldier though, and if it's a steady trickle as they implied then it wouldn't be enough to have a legitimate fighting force. If it was a massive wave of already trained conscripts, they should have shown it. IMO they did a pretty bad job of "showing" most things and instead we were "told."

Not just dungeons, cities too. This game has more wilderness than far cry.
And man, the one lone side dungeon that looked like it was going to be interesting, the temple in "God of secrets", was just so, so unrewarding.
A despair demon with extra hit points and 7 annoyingly hidden magic sigils on the walls. Yay.
No dialogue, no cut scenes. By far the most disappointing thing in the game for me.
I brought along both Solas and Sera to the Temple of Dirthamen and you'd think they have at least something to say! But nope, pretty much silent the whole way through.

I love Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age II, I've read the comics and I'm currently reading the books. So yeah, no.
