with warden i made a character, with hawk i simpathyzed with their character, with quizzy, eeeh...he/she is a puppet.

For story, origins,inquisition,DA2, never really enjoyed DA2 focuses story, maybe if  i cared about hawke more

Overall:

Warden

Inquisitor

Hawke

Granted, my opinion of Hawke took a pretty big hit in DA:I, hence why they're at the bottom of my list.  The Warden allowed for so much customization that I really felt that they were my PC rather than some PC that I could change the appearance and fighting style of.  Inquisitor has the "Well.... ****." line and actually curses, which makes them feel more like a person to me.

As they were in their respective games:

Warden

Hawke

Inquisitor

This is without taking their involvement in the other games into account.  Again, the Warden's at the top of my list simply because they felt my my PC.  Ignoring Hawke's DA:I cameo, they actually feel more grounded than the Warden and the Inquisitor.  Not to mention that they had to work for what they got, which is something I have to respect.  The Inquisitor is at the bottom because they felt very... detached.  The fact that a Dalish Inquisitor could sound like they knew nothing of Dalish lore also makes it worse.  The romances were good, yeah, and the reactionary dialogue was good too, but the Inquisitor just seemed way too god-like.  Maybe that's because of the ability to craft crazy-powerful armor and weapons, but the point still stands.

1.HoF. The fact I got to play this epic story with my Cousland Warden i feel way more connected. From his parents dying, watching his best friend become king and get married, morrigan confessing feelings for him then having a baby with her, dueling loghain, slaying the archdemon and flemeth, making new wardens in awakening and eventually going after warden. Of course theres more but its the adventure the warden took me through it that haf everything betrayel vengeance fun etc. Seeing him grow and knowing he did his parents proud made him feel like a hero.

2.Hawke was funny his humor and personality was fun to play as. Even considering his humor was to hide the pain of his losses. And even falling in love with Isabela the girl you wouldnt expect to fall in love was nice. Hawke had highs and lows in his life not as epic as the warden but he had a connection with the company he kept. Even when his brother become a templar then fought by his side was a cool moment.

3. Right now my Inquisitor is depent on DLC to see if he will give me a feel close enough to jump above hawke but he cant touch the warden dont see a dlc doing that. Maybe once I see how Divine Cass Romance arc plays out and things with solas. I need to see his emotional journey. I seen him go thru his journey with his personal faith in the Maker but I need more then that.

1.) Hawke

2.) Inquisitor

3.) Warden

Hawke and Inquisitor are very close to each other.  Given enough time it's possible that Inquisitor will top the list, but I also feel more free to make different Inquisitors so I might not ever be able to settle on one to be my "primary" Inquisitor.

The Warden is fine?  I don't feel as attached to him as either of the other two, and I think that part of that is because he doesn't seem like a person as much as the other two do.  A lot of that could be the voiced protagonist thing, but I'm not certain.  I like several of the Wardens I've played as, but I don't feel like they're as memorable as individuals, though they probably make very good legendary figures.

4. Hawke

I've stated in other threads how much Hawke sucks, so I won't repeat myself here (Hawke's death in the Fade is a REQUIREMENT in my playthroughs). However, I rather liked my protagonist having her own voice. I've never been a fan of silent protagonists (just a preference). Overall, DAO was a better game, but I just like my inquisitor better. I got into her story more.

Warden, any origin. I have one for each, male and female. Though my female Amell is my favorite/canon.

Inquisitor.

Hawke is at the bottom because I was never able to connect with her, not sure why. I tend to connect more with the companions then I do with the actual protagonist. That's why I prefer silent characters (like Revan, or Jedi Exile) over the voiced ones. Though, the Inquisitor is pretty awesome... albeit bland in some areas. Like I said, I find the companions more interesting :P

1. Warden, especially Aeducan, Cousland, city elf and mage origins.

2. Hawke, especially sarcastic female Hawke.

3. Inquisitor... uh... guess female dalish mage works best but it's still bland.

They all have their ups and downs, and none of them share the same place in their respective games. I don't really think comparing them is a good idea.

I like them all.  But if I had to put them in an order:

Kit Hawke (Snarky 'canon' rogue)

Inquisitor (Haven't chosen a canon out of my runs yet, none has 'clicked' that special way a canon does with me)

Neria Surana (Warden)

1.  Warden

2.  Hawke

3.  Inquisitor

Honestly, the main reason the Warden is ahead of Hawke is due to mods. The mods I downloaded enriched Origins and made it more fun to replay. There were far less mods for DA2, but the game is still fun to replay. With DA:I, I'm still on my second playthrough and it feels like I'm trudging through mud...the level grinding gets old and it became apparent, the second time through, that the game has far less substance than the other two.

There were things I hated about DA2 (like the forced and pointless killing of Hawke's mother), but Hawke's companions were awesome and you felt like you got to know them very well. It was that way with DA:O, too. We got to develop our PCs and, in doing so, it shaped the relationships with your companions. You became friends with them, or in some cases, wary allies. There was depth to the characters and the PC. With DA:I, I don't feel like I know any of these people, the Inquisitor included. She's kinda bland, doesn't get to be much of a smartass, and her companions are a bit standoffish, even near the end when you're supposedly "close" to some of them. It's sad that the one I feel my Inquisitors got to know the best is Cullen, and he can't even join your party. I loved Varric in DA2 (he was my Hawke's buddy and rock) but in this one, he really doesn't say much and you never get the feeling he's the Inquisitor's friend. None of them are, really. It's like the game keeps telling you that you're friends, but you don't feel it.

It's funny. After my first time through DA2, I killed Anders almost every time. I loved the guy but he had to go and it ended up feeling like you were doing him a favor to kill him because he was so lost. There was little left of the Anders you met in Awakening, after all. But even when he blew up the chantry, my Hawke cared for him (even as she stuck a blade through him). But in DA:I, I loathe Blackwall. The dog story made me ill, and he never really did anything to change my opinion of him. Again, it was like they were pushing you to think of Blackwall as this suddenly heroic dude, but I just don't feel it. The guy is a huge douchenozzle. I wish we could trade his sorry ass for a Mabari.

1. Warden

2. Hawke and Inquisitor tie for least. I didn't care for either of them.

Imo the story was written just well enough in DA2 for people to think Hawke was not another chosen one, but they were. You are still saved miraculously, you're just not a Grey Warden or lime green lamp-post with a body, you're the Champion of Kirkwall. I personally despised being so limited in what I could do and especially with the level of protection for characters in the plot. DAO was the game in the franchise with the least amount of plot protection to the story characters and it was awesome, made me feel much more a part of something rather than living through some kind of "Being Jon Malkovich" reiteration with a new protagonist as the body I live through.

You know, when I read that post I couldn't help but to laugh that the person dismissing Hawke also managed to reference one of their most memorable lines from DA2 while doing it.

1. Hawke

2. Inquisitor?

3. Warden?

Choosing between Inquisitor and Warden was difficult because while I do like the Warden's story better, the Inquisitor's voice acting and expressions allow me to experience them more as someone in that world, even if they were ridiculously muted.

Hawke for me, however, will remain number 1 out of these, simply because for me s/he felt most like a person in that world. From the voice acting, from the reaction to his/her interactions with their companions and families. It felt like s/he was someone choosing to do something instead of a thing reacting to outside stimuli. I will freely grant that that is merely an issue of perception, but what else are games truly?

The Warden is my favorite as a story-telling tool. It gave me the most flexibility for projecting my characters' motivations into the story, but some of the "but thou must" moments in the origin prologs and the wide-eyed puppet stare in cutscenes was distancing.

My canon Hawke is my favorite character. She felt the most like a real person, but I had to choose very particular options to make the narrative work. On my first playthrough the writers broke my Hawke's driving motivation beyond repair.

My first Inquisitor is the one I felt most connected to. A reserved Dalish mage works beautifully, and I was more emotionally tuned-in to that protagonist than I have been in quite a few years. I just stumbled into that though; I've tried other Inquisitors since then and some flat-out don't work with the story.
